It's been 19 years since a group of six friends who overstayed their welcome at New York's Central Perk coffee shop were last seen onscreen. The last episode aired on May 6, 2004, but loyal fans watch their favorite show over and over again to discover hidden details and hidden meanings.
Gunther reserved the table for Friends
As many fans have noticed, the cafe where the friends often meet is located in a busy area, but they always manage to get a couch.
The theory is that in Central Perk, Gunther always left a reserved sign on the table in front of the couch so that the main characters could hang out there. He was in love with Rachel and liked to watch her – so he kept the table for her and her friends.
All the events of the show are Phoebe's hallucinations
Phoebe has always been strange and one with a dark past. This fan theory suggests that the entire series is a fantasy of the homeless Phoebe staring into the cafe window.
Another similarly sad theory is that the main characters actually live in a psychiatric hospital and suffer from general psychosis. Because of their mental disorders, they indulge in fantasies together to distract themselves from reality.
Alice is actually a criminal
Remember Alice, Frank Jr.'s wife? Their relationship was already strange, and this theory implies that Alice was actually a convicted sex offender.
Alice and Frank Jr. move on to surrogacy as an option, because they couldn't adopt a child. The adoption would not have been possible if Alice had been convicted of sex crimes.
