5 Completely New TV Series Coming to Netflix in January 2024
There are five exciting, brand-new series coming to Netflix in January.
While the recently concluded WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have disrupted Netflix 's 2024 release schedule, the service is still ready to unveil some brand-new shows. Some of the upcoming series managed to shoot before the strikes even began, and some had the advantage of being foreign productions.
Let's take a look at 5 intriguing releases coming to Netflix already in January.
5. Fool Me Once (Limited Series)
Release date: January 1
The year 2024 will kick off with the release of the highly anticipated British thriller Fool Me Once, based on the novel of the same name by Danny Brocklehurst and adapted by Harlan Coben. The series stars some of the biggest names in British film and television: Michelle Keegan (Brassic), Richard Armitage (The Hobbit, The Stranger), Adeel Akhtar (Utopia, Sherwood) and Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous).
The plot will revolve around Maya Stern (Keegan), a recently widowed woman who, after installing a nanny-can, recognizes her own supposedly murdered husband in the face of an intruder. A parallel storyline will be developed by her nephew and niece, who believe the case is connected to their mother's murder.
4. The Brothers Sun (Season 1)
Release date: January 4
Next up is The Brothers Sun, a dark action comedy created by Brad Falchuk (Glee, American Horror Story, Pose) and Byron Wu. The upcoming series will tell the story of a crazy twist in the life of ordinary California resident Bruce Sun (Sam Song Li), whose lifestyle is turned upside down when his older brother Charles (Justin Chien) arrives from Taipei, Taiwan to protect his brother and their mother (Michelle Yeoh). Bruce learns that Charles is a well-known gangster in Taiwan, and that their father and mother were leaders of a crime syndicate.
3. Boy Swallows Universe (Season 1)
Release date: January 11
Boy Swallows Universe is a crime drama with coming-of-age elements, based on the semi-autobiographical novel of the same name by Trent Dalton. Set in Brisbane, Australia in the 1980s, it revolves around an ordinary working-class youth, Eli Bell, who has a crazy family consisting of a drug-addicted mother, an estranged father he's never met, a drug-dealing stepfather, and a mute brother.
As much as Eli tries to live an ordinary life and find the good in it, fate forces him to dive into the criminal underworld to keep his family from falling apart and to grow up to be a decent person himself.
2. Griselda (Limited Series)
Release date: January 25
Griselda is another upcoming crime drama that will chronicle the life of one of the most notorious drug lords who controlled almost all of the drug trafficking in Miami, Florida from the 1970s to the early 2000s.
The fearless and ambitious Colombian, nicknamed the Black Widow and Cocaine Godmother, was exposed to the underworld from childhood and quickly gained the upper hand in the bloody drug wars after moving to the U.S. Griselda is portrayed by Sofía Vergara.
1. Detective Forst (Season 1)
Release date: TBA
Rounding out our list is a thriller based on a series of novels by one of Poland's most famous and prolific writers, Remigiusz Mróz. The series will tell the story of brutal crime-solving events set in Poland's Tatra Mountains, which will be faced by the cynical but experienced detective Wiktor Forst (Borys Szyc).
