5 Characters Who Really Won the Game of Thrones
"When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die,” said Queen Cersei once. Well, these five people didn’t just win the game of thrones — they smashed it!
If we go by Cersei Lannister’s words, everyone who survived at the end of the show can be labeled as a winner of the game of thrones. But we don’t, as there are some characters who clearly won far more than the others — and we’re not talking about the most obvious picks like Bran Stark who became the new King!
These five people arguably benefitted the most from the events of Game of Thrones, and in terms of “stonks,” they hit an absolute jackpot. Let’s see who they are!
5. Hoster Tully
Hoster Tully, the proud father of Catelyn, Lysa, and Edmure, could’ve taken the first place — if not only for the fact that he, well, died.
Lord Tully’s a clear winner just because he managed to die peacefully in his sleep and his family left to rule over all of Westeros: King of the Seven Kingdoms, Queen in the North, Lord of the Vale and Warden of the East, and Lord of Riverrun are all his direct descendants. Impressive!
4. Robyn Arryn
The least capable person to have ever held power in Westeros, young Robyn Arryn turned out to be one of the main beneficiaries of the turmoil.
Free from his crazy mother, Robyn inherited a large fertile realm unscathed by the wars and powerful allies in his relatives, the King of Seven Kingdoms and the Queen in the North.
If this isn’t a jackpot, we don’t know what is: Robyn was set for life and did nothing for it!
3. Tyrion Lannister
Tyrion Lannister started off as a drunkard and a disgrace to his family (in their eyes, at least).
He was never destined to become a lord of any lands — but in the end, Tyrion became the Lord of Casterly Rock, the King’s Hand, the Seven Kingdom’s most powerful and rich man, and — as many seem to have forgotten — a husband of the Queen in the North.
All of this combined makes Tyrion the real winner of GoT.
2. Gendry Baratheon
The fact that we now mention his last name is enough proof of Gendry’s ascent on its own. Gendry used to be a clueless orphan working as a blacksmith, and he ended up being legitimized as Robert Baratheon’s son.
This automatically made him Lord of Storms End and the patriarch of the new Baratheons’ family line. His close relationship with Arya Stark arguably makes him allied with both the royals, too.
1. Lord Bronn
We couldn’t include Bronn’s new last name as it is unknown, but you get the picture: a poor and stranded sellsword, he quickly ascended in the hierarchy by allying with the right people.
After successfully pulling off his shenanigans, Bronn ended up becoming the Lord of Highgarden, Lord Paramount of the Reach, Master of Coin, and the founder of his house. Not too bad for a lad with no last name, eh?
