Although he is best known as a badass action hero, the actor has proven more than once that he is not limited to one genre.

Bruce Willis has built an impressive career over the years, becoming an action movie icon on par with the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone before his recent retirement due to health complications. But the actor's talent extends beyond action movies, as he has given many memorable performances in different genres. So here are five of Bruce Willis' best non-action roles.

James Cole - 12 Monkeys (1995)

When the remaining humans are forced to live underground due to a deadly pandemic, prisoner James Cole is sent back in time to prevent the disaster. Willis gives a great performance along with his co-stars (including Brad Pitt), making this twisted time travel story even more compelling.

Malcolm Crowe - The Sixth Sense (1999)

One of the best films from the "King of Plot Twists" M. Night Shyamalan, this movie follows child psychologist Malcolm Crowe as he tries to help a child who claims to be "seeing dead people."

Willis shines as a dramatic actor in this film, showing that he can play much deeper characters than your average action hero.

Mr. Goodkat - Lucky Number Slevin (2006)

In this crime thriller about an innocent man caught up in a rivalry between two crime bosses, Bruce plays a mysterious and charismatic hitman known simply as Mr. Goodkat, who is more of an anti-hero than your typical good guy.

Jimmy "the Tulip" Tudeski - The Whole Nine Yards (2000)

Another hitman portrayed by Willis, but this role is more comedic than the previous one on our list. He befriends Nicholas "Oz" Oseransky, his new neighbor, which leads to a whole bunch of problems for the latter, as he is just an ordinary man, unlike Jimmy.

Butch Coolidge - Pulp Fiction (1994)

Quentin Tarantino 's masterpiece has several separate storylines that only occasionally intertwine, and Butch is the protagonist of one of them. The actor's performance in "The Gold Watch" is equal parts badass, heartfelt and funny, making him an essential part of an already great movie.
