Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most beloved and successful movie franchises in the world — and even many years later, it still holds so many questions that were left unanswered!

5. Pirate Lord Requirements

Nine Pirate Lords are pretty much ruling over the seas, save for the multiple mythical creatures, but it’s admittedly way too easy to join the Lords’ ranks if Captain Jack Sparrow was among them.

Half the time, the man had no crew or ship, and he was always hunted and indebted to others. How could Jack end up on the same council with the most legendary and rich pirates in the world?

4. Flying Dutchman’s Curse

From what we’ve gathered from the movie, the only reason why Davy Jones and his crew were looking like sea monsters was that they completely ignored their direct duties — taking care of the souls.

But Captain Will Turner started immediately attending to that duty, so why was he covered in barnacles when we last saw him in Dead Men Tell No Tales? He just arrived at the shore after ten years of helping the dead folks!

3. Magic Compass Deal

Captain Jack Sparrow had his famous magical compass that always pointed toward his heart’s greatest desire, and we know that he traded it off from Tia Dalma aka Calypso. Traded, not just received.

For such a powerful artifact, Jack must have offered the goddess something extremely valuable, but we’ve never learned what it was. Once again, Jack was the poorest pirate the world has ever seen, so we’re really curious about this one.

2. Salazar’s Curse

Captain Salazar and his crew were freed from the Devil's Triangle immediately after Captain Jack Sparrow, glorious as always, traded his magical compass for a drink. Apparently, Jack losing the Compass was essential to Salazar’s curse.

But in the previous movies, Jack has lost hold of the Compass multiple times, and other people have used it before — and Salazar remained stuck in the Triangle. What was so different about the last time Jack lost the Compass?

1. Calypso’s Entrapment

It is known that Tia Dalma was but the human form of Calypso, the goddess of the sea, and a long time ago, her ex-lover Davy Jones and the Pirate Lords managed to trick her and trap her in that human body forever. Check.

Now, how does one trap a goddess into her human form? Considering Calypso’s power, it seems near-impossible, but Davy Jones obviously found a way to do so. What was his plan and how did he manage to succeed?
