5. Season 8: Apocalypse
Apocalypse started off strong by blowing up the entire world with an entire arsenal of nuclear bombs — but then, it sadly reverted that glorious event.
Despite such an underwhelming finale, bringing the witches of Coven and the Antichrist from Murder House together and throwing a bunch of AHS’s all-time favorite stars in the mix was a recipe for success, and fans loved Apocalypse.
4. Season 3: Coven
Bloodthirsty, wild, and disturbingly magical, Coven had a special atmosphere. The intense intrigues of murderous and utterly insane witches of the Coven captivated the audience, and this season only had one significant downside. You can’t really bother to worry about characters dying when they are consistently being brought back from the dead, can you?
3. Season 7: Cult
It won’t be an exaggeration to call Cult the most unique AHS season ever: unlike all the others, it doesn’t revolve around the supernatural and focuses on politics, instead. Season 7 does a phenomenal job of portraying how fear and anger turn people into mindless puppets, and every one of the lead characters brings this message across in their own way.
2. Season 1: Murder House
The first season of American Horror Story, Murder House blew everyone’s minds off in a variety of ways: from using the allegory of a haunted house to show a family torn apart to killing off its star-studded cast and then claiming they’d come back in Season 2, Murder House did it all. It was the perfect way to pique the viewers’ interest, and that’s what S1 did.
1. Season 2: Asylum
Out of everything American Horror Story has to offer, Asylum is by far the best — the absolute pinnacle of the show’s insanity. Season 2 brought together serial killers, aliens, Nazis, insane patients, and a journalist who got stuck in this crazy parade… And despite the sheer ridiculousness of the plot, the audience was totally enchanted by the brilliant execution. Asylum is the true AHS in its full glory.
