These ones are definitely worth your time!

These days Netflix ’s top is taken over by Jennifer Lopez ’s sci-fi flick that follows a data analyst who is sent to space to stop a renegade robot. Although it got such a strong viewership, it was panned by critics and received a shameful 17% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Luckily, there are a number of better titles exploring the topics of robots and science as a whole. Here are 4 worth-watching sci-fi movies, rated 85% or higher on RT.

  1. Upgrade (2018) - 88% on RT

First comes a cyberpunk film set in a future where AI serves as a healing mechanism implanted into people’s bodies. Thus, a person is given a number of new abilities, and it’s exactly what happens to the main character, who uses them on his way to perform his bloody revenge. Apart from a curious futuristic leitmotif, this movie is full of unexpected twists, as well as spectacular action-packed sequences, so don’t miss it.

  1. I Am Mother (2019) - 89% on RT

J Lo’s Atlas touches upon the possible relationship between humanity and AI, while this movie goes even further in this respect. Its plot revolves around a family where a daughter is raised by a robot designed to repopulate Earth after an apocalypse.

Thus, given the obstacles of the ruined planet and the lack of real people, the two get closer to each other, especially when they face a new danger coming to them.

  1. Bumblebee (2018) - 90% on RT

Being both a spin-off and a prequel to the iconic Transformers movie (2007), this flick follows the origin of Bumblebee the Autobot, who is sent to Earth on a mission, but struggles to do anything due to an injury. Luckily, he is found and helped by a teenage girl, a relationship with whom also reminiscent of the robot plotline in Atlas. It’s a great movie that is rich in both science fiction details and well-made action.

  1. Ex Machina (2015) - 92% on RT

Finally, we have one of the most unforgettable sci-fi films of the last decade. It focuses on an IT creator, who is developing a robot that can pass a Turing test, however his advances in it are getting out of hand. It differs from the previous picks by its smaller scale, but it perfectly deals with the issues of human-like machines and their potential ability to build relationships with people or to outperform them.
