While both tell the story of survival in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies, there are certain characters and plotlines that have taken different paths.
Let's take a look at four instances where The Walking Dead TV show deviated from the original comic book.
Rick got his hand chopped off
Rick Grimes, the central character of The Walking Dead, had a unique feature in the comic books: he lost his hand. This happened when he encountered the ruthless Governor in Woodbury. Losing his hand was a humbling experience for Rick.
However, the TV show decided not to include this aspect of Rick's journey.
Daryl Dixon wasn’t in the comic book
One of the most beloved characters in The Walking Dead TV show is Daryl Dixon, portrayed by Norman Reedus. However, Daryl doesn't exist in the comic book series.
He was created specifically for the TV show. Unlike other characters, Daryl doesn't have a comic book origin to fall back on, yet he has managed to survive and become a prominent figure in the series.
Carol is weaker in the comic book
In the TV show, Carol, played by Melissa McBride, has evolved into a strong and resilient character. She has endured numerous tragedies and has become an integral part of the story.
However, in the comic books, Carol is a relatively forgettable character. Eventually, Comic Carol takes her own life by letting a walker bite her, seeking an end to her suffering.
Andrea survived much longer and was Rick’s girlfriend
In season 3 of the TV show, Andrea, played by Laurie Holden, made a surprising choice to align herself with the villainous Governor. This led to her tragic demise later in the season.
However, in the comic books, Andrea's story took a different turn. She became Rick's love interest and met her end much later while trying to save another survivor from a walker attack.
