Yes, Schitt's Creek was hilarious, but it was also overly touching.

In the first season of Schitt's Creek, we are introduced to not the most pleasant, spoiled by wealth, capricious characters who find themselves in sudden poverty.

Then the characters begin to develop, rise above themselves, we see how they gradually turn into a real family, make friends and relationships that are very different from what they are used to – more real.

There are many touching moments in the show, and this is the case when even an ordinary hug turns into something special and can bring tears to your eyes.

1. The Coming Out

Schitt's Creek was a truly empowering show when it came to queer relationships. And the scene of Patrick's confession to his parents did not disappoint.

Patrick was rightfully worried when he decided to tell his parents about his relationship with David, and it was literally difficult to watch him find the strength to say out loud what he had wanted to say for so long.

And Patrick's parents... acted like Patrick's parents, the nicest and sweetest people in the world, accepting their son for who he was.

2. The Breakup

The writers wrote seven drafts of Ted and Alexis' breakup scene, and we're grateful they chose the best one. At that point, most fans were wondering when the lighthearted comedy would turn into a family drama with some truly delightful personal growth for the characters.

Ted got a dream job offer in Ecuador, but he didn't want Alexis to leave Schitt's Creek because of him. Such a sad final scene, but it showed so well how much Alexis has grown since the early seasons, and so has Tad. All those words they said to each other were so right, even though they were so heartbreakingly sad.

3. The Proposal

Yes, many fans wanted David to propose to Patrick and not the other way around, but let's face it, it still turned out to be one of the most touching proposals we've ever seen on screen, even if it didn't go according to plan.

During the hike, Patrick twisted his ankle and David almost had to carry him the rest of the way, and although David has never been a fan of long walks in the fresh air, the fact that he agreed to this adventure with Patrick only proves his love. Despite his capriciousness, David can be serious and focused, and the touching way he treats Patrick will melt any heart.

So, if you didn't shed a tear when Patrick got down on one knee and David agreed to commit his life to him, then maybe you just need to watch that moment again.

4. The Farewell

The finale turned out to be very touching because the Rose family has really grown closer to each other. If before the family members lived in a huge luxurious house and hardly communicated with each other, after several years of living in a tiny motel, they finally became a real family.

In the final episode, the viewers finally understand how the younger Roses grew up: Alexis is going to New York to build a career, and David is getting married and wants to stay in Schitt's Creek to live quietly with his partner and not give up the business – his own pharmacy.

Johnny and Moira go to California to develop a franchise of their own hotels. It is sweet how the head of the family has given way to his wife this time: Moira was invited to star in the show, but Johnny did not want to be separated from her for a while and adjusted his plans. That is exactly what they do in loving families.
