4 Reasons Why You Need to Check Out Gen V Before The Boys' Season 4
This show will make you believe in spin-offs.
On September 29, Amazon Prime releases Gen V, a spin-off of The Boys based on the comic book by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.
This is the second expansion of the TV universe of The Boys. The first was the animated anthology Diabolical, which featured cameos from the main characters from the original show, but new characters were at the center of the action. Gen V follows the same principle.
In addition, Gen V and season 4 of The Boys are closely connected in terms of plot, so the spin-off definitely deserves close attention.
1. Dark Atmosphere
The Boys broke all records in terms of using its 18+ rating to the fullest — there was nudity, blood, and swearing. According to critics, Gen V keeps up with The Boys. The humor in the spin-off is dark, aggressive, sudden, and there are no taboo topics.
2. Inventive Storytelling
The Boys surprised us first and foremost by showing us something we had never seen before — cheeky superheroes who are no better (and sometimes much worse) than mere mortals, shocking violence, disturbing jokes, and interesting visual solutions.
Those who miss this breath of fresh air and are tired of waiting for season 4 of The Boys should simply turn to Gen V, which is no inferior to the original project in terms of surprises.
3. Social Criticism
The Boys attracted a large audience precisely because the story about "bad superheroes" actually tells us about ordinary people — unpredictable, cruel, ambiguous, and confused, and it also criticizes modern social problems.
Gen V has enough social criticism even if it's blurry and cheeky. But it's bold enough, when compared to the original show, so viewers won't get lost.
4. Worthy Follow-Up
If you thought that no show would ever reach the level of The Boys again, you were (thankfully) wrong. Gen V is a worthy successor to the original series that does the seemingly impossible — takes the madness of the original to the next level.
If The Boys was called a parody of The Avengers, critics are already calling Gen V a satire of the X-Men, and that sounds very promising.
