"What if I'm not the hero? What if I am the bad guy?" Yeah, what if you actually are?

The first part of The Twilight Saga was released 15 years ago and during that time it gained cult status. However, time passes and society changes, and what we didn’t notice before is now catching the eye, making us wonder how all these things were even considered normal.

1. Bella and Edward's abusive relationship

Edward Cullen, a supposedly highly moral vegetarian vampire who won the hearts of millions in the early 2000s, ten years after the end of the franchise, looks like a classic abuser, and the books and their adaptations look like a textbook example of toxic relationships.

There is a desire to control a partner and a desire to isolate them from friends, stalking, gaslighting, not to mention the fact that Edward is 108 and Bella is 17.

2. The relationship of Jacob and Renesmee is strange (to say the least)

The second most important love story in the franchise is also, let's say, a little odd. In the story, the werewolf Jacob falls in love with a child – the daughter of Edward and Bella.

In the movie, Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob, looks at a five-year-old child and asks Robert Pattinson 's Edward Cullen, "Should I start calling you dad?" Why Twilight hasn't been canceled over this is still a mystery.

3. A positive portrayal of violence

In terms of its depiction of family life, Twilight has not aged well at all. Nowadays the saga is regularly criticized for its romanticizing of violence.

Stephenie Meyer's attitude towards domestic violence in Twilight is represented by werewolves, who, as we know, cannot always control their aggression. For example, women who have been mutilated by them continue to live on the werewolf reservation. When Bella asks what happened, the answer is that the men simply could not control themselves.

4. Bad wigs

It's hard to believe, but it's true: one of the biggest franchises in movie history was filmed as a classic B-movie.

Thousands of articles have been written about the strange use of special effects in Twilight, but the makeup artists deserve special mention – the makeup for the vampires, who, let us remind you, pretend to be humans, was clearly done by fans of Chinese theater. And the wigs, which seem ready to fly off the actors' heads at any moment, are reminiscent of exploitation classics like Pink Flamingos.
