4 Perfect Superhero Comedies to Watch on Prime Before The Boys Season 4
Step back, Marvel!
Back in 2019, Prime Video ’s banger series The Boys mocked all the tropes of superhero movies and became one of the biggest hits of the network. Luckily, we’ll see the next season of this hilarious show already this summer, on June 13, but before that it’d be great to binge-watch some of the best full-length satirical flicks about supermen.
Here are 4 of the most worth-watching movies for all fans of The Boys.
1. Shazam! (2019)
First comes Zachary Levi’s hyped film, which became both a box office success and a critically acclaimed must-watch, and it’s proved by its decent 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Following an adult superhero with various superpowers, Shazam demonstrates that adults can be as ridiculous as their teen counterparts through its relatable humor, and it isn’t afraid to be silly to prove it and make us laugh so hard.
2. The Mask (1994)
This cult comedy, led by the star of the 90s genre’s staples, Jim Carrey, is a classic choice for the superhero comedies’ list. Indeed, it literally paved the way for all the satire about the masked heroes saving the cities from the wicked. The entertaining story of a clerk gaining a number of supernatural powers after finding a magical mask inscribed both the movie’s name and the one of Carrey in cinematic history.
3. Superhero Movie (2008)
Inspired by the success of the Scary Movie franchise that rode the hype train in the 2000s, this parody film takes aim at Marvel and DC Comics features by building a story about Rick Riker, who is reminiscent of both Spider-Man and Batman by his nature. The whole movie appears to be full of witty callbacks to the famous superhero movie universes and characters, so fans of the genre will have a great laugh with it.
4. Mystery Men (1999)
Last comes an underrated star-studded 90s gem that deserves much more attention. Following an amateur superhero team hoping to show themselves after the main defender of the city was trapped by the villain, this movie is really hilarious even 25 years later. It seems to be ahead of its time and to be perceived even better these days, when the action-packed superhero blockbusters firmly dominate at the box office.
