New K-dramas to hit Disney+.

This year, fans of Korean television should expect more intriguing releases, as Disney+ recently announced four new projects planned for this year.

4. Blood Free

Release Date: April 2024

One of the first K-drama releases on Disney+ this year is the thriller Blood Free, about an ex-soldier hired as a bodyguard for the CEO of a biotech cell-cultured meat company. Except everyone who questions the company starts mysteriously disappearing.

The series stars Ju Ji-hoon (Kingdom), Han Hyo-joo (Moving) and Lee Hee-joon (Chimera).

3. The Tyrant

Release Date: Second half of 2024

The Tyrant, a sci-fi action series from director and writer Park Hoon-jung (script for Kim Jee-woon's 'I Saw the Devil' as well as his own 'New World'), will be released in the second half of 2024. In the story, the South Korean government was developing a mysterious and top-secret virus called 'the Tyrant', but the project was frozen under pressure from the US to stop dangerous developments. However, while being transferred to the US, the virus was stolen and now a former US agent, played by Cha Seung-won (A Korean Odyssey, Our Blues), must retrieve it.

2. Unmasked

Release Date: TBD

Unmasked follows a group of journalists as they deal with the fallout from a controversial story that has hit the airwaves. To save their careers, they must reopen a twenty-year-old cold case involving the disappearance of a once-famous actor. Kim Hye-soo (Juvenile Justice, Under the Queen's Umbrella) stars in the upcoming series.

1. Gangnam B-Side

Release Date: TBD

Gangnam B-Side promises to be a crime drama that follows a disgraced detective who must delve into the underbelly of Seoul's trendiest neighborhood, Gangnam, after the disappearance of his daughter's girlfriend. Starring Jo Woo-jin (Mr. Sunshine), Ji Chang-wook (Welcome to Samdal-ri) and Ha Yoon-kyung (Extraordinary Attorney Woo).

But That's Not All That's Coming

The year 2024 is a real treat for all fans of South Korean TV series who have a Netflix subscription. So, in addition to the four upcoming releases mentioned above, we should expect other intriguing K-dramas that were announced earlier this year.

The Zone: Survival Mission — First of all, the third season of this variety show starring Yoo Jae-suk, Lee Kwang-soo, and Kwon Yuri is scheduled for this year. The exact release date is still unknown.

Wonderful World — It is a revenge drama with elements of both romance and thriller. Wonderful World, written by Kim Ji-eun (Lie After Lie), will chronicle a mother's pursuit of justice. Eun Soo-hyun (Kim Nam-Joo) is a professor of psychology and a writer who hunts down the person behind her son's murder.

She also starts helping other people who suffer similar anguish for the law's injustice, thus healing her own trauma as well as theirs. It's scheduled to be released on March 1, 2024.

Light Shop — The show will be about a light shop and its enigmatic owner. What distinguishes the seemingly ordinary shop are the extraordinary visitors, both living and dead, who seek to contemplate their lives and release all the attachments to flee to the afterlife. This is the next project of Kang Full, who wrote the script for Moving. We will get to know the release date in the coming months.

Uncle Samsik — The story will be set in the 1960s, when South Korea was governed by an autocratic regime. The storyline will follow an idealistic young man, Kim San (Byun Yo-han), who has returned from the States to pursue democratic changes in his homeland, and his fixer Uncle Samsik (Song Kang-ho), who is determined to make his dreams come true. A release date has not yet been announced.
