4 Easter Eggs In The Boys That Basically Brought Supernatural Back From the Dead
Thanks to Eric Kripke, Supernatural lives on.
It would be strange to compare two shows as different as The Boys and Supernatural, but here we are. Eric Kripke, the creator of both projects, hid several Easter eggs and wove images from Supernatural into the adaptation of the notorious superhero satire.
The appearance of Jensen Ackles is not the first and far from the only reference to the legendary show.
1. Jim Beaver as Robert Singer
The most obvious reference is, no, not Jensen Ackles, but Robert Singer, the US Secretary of Defense. He was played by Jim Beaver, who also portrayed veteran hunter Bobby Singer on Supernatural. Moreover, the name of the friend of the Winchester family refers to producer and screenwriter Robert Singer.
Some fans even believe that Robert could be another version of Bobby; after all, Chuck created a multiverse, and who knows, maybe The Boys live in one of the universes. Besides, Robert's hometown is Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the same place where Bobby lived. Is it just a coincidence?
2. Soldier Boy's first appearance is a nod to Castiel's first appearance
Eric Kripke personally confirmed that the appearance of Jensen Ackles' character was clearly inspired by Castiel's first acquaintance with Dean and Sam. Castiel reveals himself in the barn, opening the doors wide and showing the shadow of his invisible wings. It made a huge impression on the audience, and Eric Kripke wanted to achieve the same effect with Soldier Boy.
It seems that it was a smart move, considering Jensen Ackles' nude appearance now ranks as one of the most memorable scenes in the whole show.
3. Dean kills Hitler while Impala hits Stormfront
In Supernatural, in addition to Sam and Dean, there was another main character – a 1967 Chevrolet Impala. If before the show was released you could buy Impala for about five hundred dollars, then in the wake of the popularity of Supernatural the numbers on the price tags became far higher. Today, a Chevrolet Impala can cost a hundred times more.
But let's get back to The Boys, because you definitely didn't notice that easter egg. The second season introduced a very important character for the plot – Stormfront. According to the comics, he is a man, a kind of super-soldier of the Third Reich, and a Nazi.
The show changed the gender of the superhero, while still maintaining the idea of the superiority of the white race. When ordinary people found out about Stormfront's views, they made a video of a very familiar car hitting the superheroine. And yes, it was the same Impala.
4. Supernatural’s famous trunk shot
Perhaps one of the most touching references was the one where we see Jensen Ackles from the bottom up. Wait, wait, this is really touching, because we're talking about the now famous shot from Supernatural where Sam and Dean are filmed from the trunk of a car.
Considering that this shot became a signature of the Winchester brothers series, it could not be just a coincidence in another Eric Kripke project.
