4 Details You Probably Missed Watching The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon E1
There's more to Daryl Dixon's trip to France than meets the eye.
The first episode of the highly anticipated Walking Dead spinoff is finally here. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon hasn’t disappointed the fans so far, offering great cinematography, new interesting characters, and a promising plot. If you watched the episode, it’s time to break it down.
Spoiler alert for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon episode 1.
Reference to the Origins
When Daryl begins his journey across France, there is a breathtaking shot of him strolling along some train tracks. It is a clear reference to the iconic scene from the first season of the original series, where Rick Grimes is on horseback, cruising down an empty stretch of highway.
Variants
Not all zombies are created equal. Daryl encounters the burner walkers — a new type of zombie that can burn their victims. In the promo after the episode, you can also spot that runners, — another type of walkers variants, — will also appear later in the show.
Variants have been hardly present during the original show, but appeared in World Beyond, another TWD spinoff.
Are Laurent And Isabelle Related?
There's something special about the kid, Laurent, whom Isabelle wants Daryl to escort. He's super intelligent, empathetic, and seems to have a connection with Daryl. It is hinted by the nuns that Laurent is the cure the world needs, literally or metaphorically. Anyway, this kid will play a big role in the show.
Isabelle mentions that she had a sister. In the promo after the episode, we can see what appears to be a flashback of Isabelle before the outbreak. In another shot we see Isabelle carrying a child, but is she Laurent’s mother?
Well, Isabelle says in the episode that Laurent’s mother died giving birth. In another brief shot of the promo, we supposedly see Isabelle’s sister dying, and she is probably Laurent’s mother.
The CRM Connection
We're introduced to a new group that seem to be a mix of soldiers and scientists, and they're definitely not fans of Daryl. It might be possible that this group is responsible for creating variant walkers and has some connection to CRM. It might be a somewhat French branch of CRM.
The next episode of Daryl Dixon will be released on September 17 on AMC and AMC+, and we can’t wait to see it.
