All these years, we were convinced that Sid from Toy Story was a psycho. Turns out, as an adult, you can actually have a lot of sympathy for him.

Summary:

  • Sid Phillips, the main antagonist in the 1995 Toy Story movie, was initially portrayed as a psychotic kid.
  • However, as the fans grew older, they began to understand that Sid was just a kid who liked to experiment with things.
  • This shift in perception has led to a more balanced view of Sid Phillips as a normal kid with a big imagination.

All of us were literally traumatized by the scenes of the mangled toys in Toy Story. That spider thing with the baby's head was haunting us in our nightmares for months. Of course, after that, it was easy to be a Sid hater.

After growing up, however, fans began to reflect on Sid's character and realized that he was just a kid with severe, undiagnosed ADHD.

Sid Phillips is the main antagonist of the first Toy Story movie, that came out in 1995. He was Andy's next door neighbor, who from the first minutes of the film was presented to the audience as this psycho kid.

Instead of treating his toys with love and care, Sid did the most horrible things to them. Then, however, he learned that the toys were actually alive and promised to change his behaviour.

Fans pointed out that Sid's family was normal. His mom gave him snacks, and his sister was annoyed but definitely not afraid of him. So his family wasn't dysfunctional at all.

Besides, Sid never jeopardized any living creature, animal or human. He was just a kid experimenting with toys. There was no way for him to know that they could feel anything. And to be honest, he stopped doing all those things when he found out the truth.

Adult fans, nonetheless, are happy that Sid was not traumatized by the toys' revenge and actually got a job and seemed happy in Toy Story 3. Some people even argue that he actually did better than Andy later in life.

“Also the implication if him being a garbage man and Andy going to college.... Bad kid=dirty smelly job. Good kid=college. Sid is 18 with a government job pulling at 30k a year with benefits, vacation and probably retirement. While Andy will be saddled with years of debt,” said Redditor Bluehunter49.

But of course, to Woody and his gang, what he did was like a war crime. And to children, who only see the perspective of toys, Sid was an antagonist. Things change over time, however, and what may seem like a villain to children is just a normal kid with a big imagination to adults.
