3 TV Shows That Became Unwatchable After The Death of Fan Favorite Villain
Sometimes a good villain is the only thing that keeps the whole show afloat.
The world of TV shows is a mystery. Sometimes it's just a matter of time before a show wears you out, but sometimes a show that spans 10 or even more seasons will keep you on the edge of your seat for many, many years.
One of the most common things that makes fans change their minds about a once-great show is a cast change related to plot development. For example, someone’s death. Most of the time, especially when the main character dies, the show comes to an end.
But that's not always the case. Although it seems like it should be for some shows, because after the death of a main character, especially if that character is the biggest villain of the show, it just ruins everything and basically dooms the show.
Here we have some of the greatest examples on how the death of a villain caused TV shows to lose value they couldn't re-obtain.
1. John Locke (Lost)
While not a complete villain, John Locke's antagonistic role in his dynamic with Jack was a key element that made the early seasons of Lost so powerful. In fact, it laid the groundwork for many of the philosophical questions that Lost would explore.
At the end of season 4, it was revealed that Locke was dead. But it was not until the middle of the next season that fans found out how he was actually killed. After that, the show was never as intriguing or powerful.
2. Crowley (Supernatural )
Introduced to Supernatural in season 5, Crowley was a demon who went through cycles of supporting and opposing the Winchester brothers. Killed off in season 12, the King of Hell was sometimes even more compelling and sympathetic than Sam and Dean themselves.
Although Supernatural had a pattern of finding ways to bring characters back from the dead, Crowley never returned, leaving fans confused and disappointed. Many people decided to drop the show simply because of his abrupt exit.
3. Perry (Big Little Lies)
This is the show that really took the Internet by storm. Season 1 was perfect in everything: amazing cast, including Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and many more, fascinating script and the most unexpected plot twists.
Alexander Skarsgård took on the role of Perry Wright, the central antagonist of the first season. In the season finale he was killed, leaving the women of the show in the victory. But the attempt to create a second season of the show actually failed because there was no villain at all.
