3 Times Better Call Saul Showcased Surprisingly Poor Writing
Looks like even the legendary Breaking Bad spinoff can make mistakes.
The show has been a critically acclaimed series since its debut in 2015. The prequel to Breaking Bad follows the journey of Jimmy McGill, a small-time attorney who becomes the infamous Saul Goodman.
However, like any show, Better Call Saul has had its fair share of poorly written scenes.
3. Mike vs Youngsters
The audience points to season 5, episode 3, when Mike was followed by a group of criminals who wanted to rob him. According to some fans, this scene is poorly written because it feels unnecessary and out of place.
Mike is an older man who so easily takes on a gang of teenagers. They are intimidated by his martial arts skills, even though they could basically crush him because there were so many of them.
This moment seems rather silly and out of sync with the main events.
2. Mike's Addiction Storyline
Another mistake made by the writers is Mike's addiction storyline. After the death of his son, Ehrmantraut turns to alcohol to cope with his grief. While his struggle with the disease is valid, it feels inappropriate in the show for many fans.
Viewers note that the theme of addiction has been used too often and too hackneyed. The audience would have liked to see more interesting character development, but they got a fairly basic story.
1. Jimmy vs Howard
The boxing scene between Howard and Jimmy also left some fans feeling crushed. It was funny to see Hamlin and McGill fighting, but the audience didn't appreciate the cheap attempt at humor.
The show has always had a dark sense of sarcasm and irony, but this moment feels odd while season 6 turned out to be the darkest installment of the series.
However, these scenes have many defenders. Some fully accept Mike's character and development, while others point out that the confrontation between Jimmy and Howard needed a comedic release before the dramatic ending.
Most recently, the show received a 9.0 rating on IMDb, once again underscoring the series' consistency with fans around the world.
