3 Reasons Why Disney’s Percy Jackson TV Show Will Overtake HBO’s Harry Potter Series
For the first time in many years, the Percy Jackson franchise gets a chance to finally beat Harry Potter, and everything’s looking really good for the upcoming PJ show.
Percy Jackson and Harry Potter franchises are similar in oh so many ways, and we’d be here all day if we actually tried to count them all. For one, they both show us a trio of teenagers entering a secret magical world that co-exists with ours and trying to defeat the ultimate bad guy and his minions while struggling with personal stuff.
They even both have the name of the protagonist as their titles, like, come on.
The thing is, Percy Jackson has always been outshone by Harry Potter in essentially every regard. The original books were not as popular; the franchise name has never sounded as loud; the movie adaptation didn’t go as well (OK, it literally failed).
But with both these franchises getting a brand-new TV show soon, it seems like Percy Jackson finally has a chance of coming out on top! And here’s why.
Early release
One of the reasons for Harry Potter’s worldwide domination was its early release: when Percy Jackson came out, every kid on the planet was already all too happy with their HP book.
With the new series, the tables will turn as Disney ’s PJ show is set to come out around a year earlier than its HP counterpart… A huge advantage.
Fresh and new
Everyone and their family dog know what Harry Potter is about, and like half of the planet’s population has watched the movies; the reboot is largely not needed now.
With Percy Jackson, it’s vice versa: there are many people who will enjoy diving into a brand-new universe, and since the movies didn’t go too far, this series will be appreciated by the fans, too.
Marketing beast
Rick Riordan’s books were a great success but didn’t reach the level of JKR’s series back in the day as the marketing was too late, among many things… But this time, Percy Jackson has an absolute monster of marketing and cash-pumping behind it, and its name is Walt Disney. This show will totally get all the coverage it needs.
And with all these (and many other) reasons combined, we think that this time around, Percy Jackson has a great chance of coming out on top of his old rival, Harry Potter. This doesn’t necessarily have to be a battle, of course, as many people will be watching both these shows, but…
A battle between a demi-god and a wizard kind of sounds like fun, doesn’t it?
