3 Reasons Chicago Fire Was Right to Rob Stella Kidd of Much-Anticipated Storyline
No matter how dirty the writers did late-season Stella, she's still a superstar both in the Chicago Fire community and in her native Firehouse 51… Which didn't prevent the writers from likely postponing her new fan-anticipated storyline.
Speculations about Stella Kidd being pregnant started in season 11 after one particular scene in episode 17.
As she is talking to her colleague Joe Cruz, he asks Stella about how she manages to maintain a work-life balance after being promoted to Lieutenant. Her answer is where the theory takes its roots.
"I don't have to deal with the kids part… yet," she replies to Cruz, and there's a subtle yet noticeable delay before she adds "yet".
It sounds as if she has something going through her mind at the moment that makes her add that last bit.
Ever since that episode, Chicago Fire fans have been consumed by the speculations about Lt. Kidd being secretly pregnant and keeping quiet about it.
The audience is excited to see her pregnancy and motherhood storyline… But it seems pretty much impossible at the moment, and there are a few reasons for that.
No one to take over
If Stella was to be truly pregnant, she would've had to spend at least six months away from Firehouse 51 very soon. Lt. Kidd is currently in charge of Truck 81, and with her absence, someone else would have to take it over.
The show — and the Truck 81 company — doesn't have anyone to replace her, so she can't leave now.
Not ready yet
Usually, when a couple decides to have kids, both partners are supposed to be on the same page in this regard.
This is clearly not the case for Kidd and Severide as we could see in "Haunted House": while Stella was taking care of the shocked minor, Kelly wasn't involved nearly as much.
Their attitude is just too different at the moment.
No husband in close proximity
If Stella Kidd was to be pregnant now, a massive problem would've emerged. Her husband is all the way in Alabama, and no one has any idea when he'll return.
With Stella's pregnancy, their relationship would've been in jeopardy since Severide is definitely not coming back any time soon, and the writers are unlikely to allow that.
Overall, it seems like Stella Kidd will be denied having kids… For now, at least. There are just too many issues it would've created plot-wise, and it would be a genuine risk to attempt such a storyline at the moment.
The hint, however, was definitely there, and we're sure the writers saw the Chicago Fire community 's excitement about this potential storyline — so we're thinking, alongside Kelly Severide's eventual return we'll also hear this much-anticipated news from Stella.
