These heartbreaking stories still resonate with fans.

In the MCU, couples rarely live happily ever after, breaking fans' hearts over and over again. But some love stories are more tragic than others.

3. Thor and Jane Foster

Thor and Jane had a long history of breaking up and getting back together, but they were definitely deeply in love.

However, Thor was not destined to live happily ever after with his beloved. According to the plot of Thor: Love and Thunder, Jane Foster was diagnosed with cancer.

In an effort to find a cure, she goes to New Asgard at the call of Mjolnir and becomes the Mighty Thor.

But Mjolnir drains Jane of her life force – because of the hammer, her body stopped fighting the cancer on its own, accelerating the deadly disease.

Before the battle at the Gates of Eternity, Thor asks Jane to stay in the hospital. However, she decides to use Mjolnir one last time to help her lover. Jane dies in battle, like a true heroine.

2. Star-Lord and Gamora

Peter Quill and Gamora have gone a long way toward finally forming a relationship, but they were not meant to be together forever. Gamora was killed by Thanos, and there is no way to bring her back.

Another version of Gamora made it clear to Star-Lord that she was not the Gamora he knew, and that she had her own family.

As difficult and painful as it was, Peter accepted the fact that his lover was dead and let go of his ghostly desire to be with Gamora.

1. Scarlet Witch and Vision

Wanda and Vision have overcome many difficulties to be together. While it's not often that you see a human and an android in love, the couple has always strived for the happiness of a normal marriage.

However, Vision was killed by Thanos, and the shattered hopes nearly cost the entire world too much.

Wanda was so desperate to escape her pain that she briefly reconstructed Vision and used her chaos magic to create her twin sons in WandaVision.

The witch tried her best to keep the illusory family together, but in the end she realized that illusion would never replace reality.
