The God of Mischief is still the best one, though.

Marvel movies have brought to life some of the most iconic antagonists in recent cinematic history.

While Thor's brother has undoubtedly become a fan favorite, there have been other villains who have tried to claim his evil glory.

1. Red Skull

Johann Schmidt, aka Red Skull, was the main antagonist in Captain America: The First Avenger. He was portrayed by the legendary actor Hugo Weaving.

The character was the leader of HYDRA, a Nazi organization that wanted to take over the world. He was obsessed with power and was willing to do anything to achieve his goals.

Red Skull was menacing, cruel, and had an air of superiority about him. Hugo Weaving's performance was exceptional, and it's a shame that he only returned to the MCU for a small cameo in Avengers after his first appearance.

2. Obadiah Stane

Obadiah Stane, played by Jeff Bridges, was the villain of the first Iron Man movie. He was the CEO of Stark Industries and Tony's business partner. Stane was jealous of Stark's success and was willing to kill him to take over the company.

Stane was someone who was supposed to be on Stark's side, but turned out to be his biggest enemy. Jeff Bridges gave a great performance.

Stane's motivation was clear and his final battle with Iron Man was one of the most memorable moments in the movie. Just the straight up evil that fans wanted.

3. The Destroyer

The Destroyer was the antagonist in Thor, and while it didn't have a human form or personality like Red Skull or Obadiah Stane, it was still an iconic villain.

The automaton was an enchanted suit of armor created by Odin to protect Asgard from its enemies.

The Destroyer was a formidable opponent for Thor, and its ability to shoot energy beams from its eyes made it a fearsome foe. The final battle between the God of Thunder and the automaton was one of the best action sequences in the film.

While Loki remains the most popular villain of Phase 1 of the MCU, there were other iconic antagonists at the beginning of the universe who could have competed with the Asgardian evil.
