Crashed by critics, the movie is about to get even more love from the audience.

Summary:

  • With Netflix ’s tendency to give old movies a second chance on the platform, some of them that didn’t do well during their theatrical run can finally be able to make it up to previous failures.
  • The streaming has recently dropped a 2022 big hit that had a raving success with the audience, but never made it to impress the critics.
  • Based on the 2018 novel of the same name, the film follows a young girl who becomes the main suspect after her ex-boyfriend is found dead.

Netflix’s library keeps expanding as the streaming doesn’t miss a chance to catch more of its audience’s attention with new and often very exciting monthly releases.

Be that an iconic romcom from the 2000s or quite a recent movie that was forgotten soon after its theatrical run, Netflix offers a second life to a sometimes very random set of films, and this time the streaming welcomed quite a controversial mystery drama released in 2022.

Produced by Reese Witherspoon and her own media company Hello Sunshine, Where the Crawdads Sing is a movie based on Delia Owens’ 2018 novel of the same name. Having Normal People’s star Daisy Edgar-Jones as its leading actress, the film follows Kya, a rebellious girl abandoned by her entire family when she was seven years old.

Living all by herself in North Carolina, Kya gets into an entangled relationship with two men from her town, but, when one of them is found dead, she’s immediately turned into the main suspect by the whole local community.

Upon its release in 2022, Where the Crawdads Sing was quick to become a major box office hit grossing $144 million against the initial budget of $24 million and, according to the reports back then, took home almost $75 million of profit.

Despite the audience’s wild delight, the movie’s overall success was severely undermined by the critics’ harshness that eventually made the film end up with only 35% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Still, Where the Crawdads Sing seems to be just fine even with all the criticism as the movie is currently holding a great score of 96% from the viewers.

Where the Crawdads Sing can now be streamed on Netflix in the US, the UK and Ireland.
