Over the past decade or so, it's become commonplace for fans to hate on the dozens of remakes Hollywood churns out every year, and it's not hard to see why. The idea of classic films being lazily updated to modern standards and hurriedly released just to make some money sounds like big business at its worst.

However, remakes are not inherently bad. On the contrary, the idea of inviting new audiences into a long-running story beloved by millions actually sounds pretty noble, don't you think?

Of course, we are not suggesting that the above remakes are better than the original movies, because that is simply not true. The above films have managed to rejuvenate the themes of their originals, but they are still heavily dependent on their source material, which gave them the strength to become good movies in the first place.

By treating the original films with care, the directors were able to successfully remake them, something that not many people in Hollywood do when it comes to remakes of major films, such as "The Little Mermaid".

The production may have great actors, talented directors and a lot of money, but if they lack the respect for the original, it will never appeal to the fans. Let's hope Disney learns this lesson and treats their iconic animated films with dignity in the years to come.
