10 Sitcoms That Wouldn't Be Half As Great Without Their Child Stars
The real talent shines bright even in the youngest actors.
While everyone has their own opinion on the best genre of TV shows, as everyone has their own preferences, no one can minimize comedy. It is not only entertaining to watch but also very interesting and challenging to create.
Comedy is much more than learning your lines. You have to feel the right timing and choose the right delivery to make the jokes land. Even established, adult actors sometimes struggle with this and feel intimidated by comedy. Kid sitcom actors, on the other hand, are always up for the challenge.
Here are 10 TV sitcoms that introduced great young comedians to the big screen.
Modern Family
This TV show is full of talent, from the adult actors to the very youngest. Every viewer has their own favorite, but in reality, all of Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould, and even Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, who started on the show at the age of 4, deserve equal recognition for their work. Modern Family wouldn't be the same without them.
Malcolm In The Middle
Frankie Muniz as Malcolm has been the greatest gift to viewers and critics agree. During the 6-year run of the series, he earned an Emmy Award nomination and two Golden Globe Award nominations, along with several other awards. For the show titled after his character, the casting of Malcolm was crucial, and the production team absolutely crushed this decision.
Fresh Off the Boat
All three boys, Eddie, Emery, and Evan, portrayed by Hudson Yang, Forrest Wheeler, and Ian Chen, are the gems of the show. Although Fresh Off the Boat was supposed to focus on only one of them, Eddie, and the casting directors must have kept that in mind, the other two boys did a wonderful job as the focus shifted and they got more screen time.
The Nanny
With all due respect to current SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher, she wasn't the only star of the show. It was Nicholle Tom as Maggie, Benjamin Salisbury as Brighton, and Madeline Zima as Grace who constantly challenged them and their on-screen father to be the best (and most entertaining) versions of themselves.
Roseanne
Even though the focus of the show was never on the children, but rather on the eccentric adults of Roseanne Conner's family, they still made many appearances and held a special place in the hearts of the viewers. Without the children, portrayed by Sara Gilbert, Michael Fishman, and Lecy Goranson, the show wouldn't feel as homey and cozy.
The Middle
In the 9 years that the show was on the air, viewers had the opportunity to watch the children of the Heck family grow up before their eyes. Axl, Sue Sue, and Brick Ishmail, portrayed by Charlie McDermott, Eden Sher, and Atticus Shaffer, carried half of the series on their little backs and left viewers deeply impressed with their performances.
Home Improvement
If you were around in the 90s, you must remember this iconic ABC sitcom and the way it beautifully portrayed the lives of the kids, Brad, Randy, and Mark. Each of them received equal attention, and the storyline evolved over the years to perfectly fit their characters. Zachery Ty Bryan, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, and Taran Noah Smith deserve a round of applause.
Young Sheldon
Of course, it is impossible to talk about children's sitcoms without mentioning the stars of Young Sheldon: Iain Armitage, Montana Jordan, and Raegan Revord. While Armitage is perfect for the role of a young genius, Jordan and Revord show viewers another side of the coin, portraying kids who lack parental attention and guidance.
Blossom
Speaking of The Big Bang Theory, it is impossible to forget the show's alum, Mayim Bialik, and her breakout performance as Blossom Russo. Although the actress has since decided to take a break from acting, there's no denying that the show wouldn't be nearly as good without her charm and talent.
Full House
Another smash hit that stole the hearts of millions of Americans and introduced viewers to talents such as Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen as Michelle Tanner. Need we go on? Well, just add Jodie Sweetin as Stephanie to show our appreciation.
