House of the Dragon managed to do what seemed impossible: restore GoT fans' hope in the HBO adaptation. Although there are still plenty of chances for the show to get the story horribly wrong, many believe that the prequel has the ability to beat the original show in every single aspect.

10. Lucerys’ Final Battle

The finale of House of the Dragon certainly reminded us how ruthless George R.R. Martin is when it comes to killing off his own characters. No one expected Baby Lucerys to go down like this, but he put up a solid fight. And his final moments were a true testament to the fact that not even Targaryen can tell a dragon what to do.

9. He Can Keep His Tongue

Matt Smith 's Daemon Targaryen remains one of the show's most beloved characters, despite being a clearly terrible person. His loyalty somehow seems to balance out his cruelty, but when the two meet... Well, Vaemond would tell you what happens, if only he could. One thing Daemon won't stand for is slander in his wife's name.

8. Rhaenyra Coming for the Egg

Long before his niece became his wife, Daemon's loyalty to her was tested on a bridge to Dragonstone. After he stole the Dragon's Egg, Viserys sent Otto to retrieve it, but Rhaenyra knew him well enough to know that she was the only one who could get it without bloodshed. Their confrontation on the bridge was just the first sign of Rhaenyra coming into her own.

7. Aemond Claiming Vhagar

Aemond, the son of Alicent and Viserys, who bears many similarities to his ruthless uncle, also had his ‘coming to power’ moment when he claimed the greatest dragon there is, Vhagar. His newfound ability definitely got to his head, and he got into a fight that cost him an eye, but the dragon was well worth it.

6. Daemon Singing to Vermithor

Another important and extremely powerful dragon that we only got a glimpse of in season 1 was Vermithor. Called Bronze Fury, this dragon would have been a valuable addition to Team Black's resources, and Daemon singing to him was a great scene to show how the bond can be formed in the most gentle way.

5. Viserys' Death

While the character of King Viserys has always been and will always be controversial, his death was touching considering how badly his decisions affected his daughter Rhaenyra, his first wife Aemma, and his second wife Alicent. It also ended up being very important to the story, as it pushed Alicent to crown Aegon II.

4. The Black and Green Dinner

The last dinner before Viserys' death was the only glimpse of happiness and peace the viewers got before the war broke out. Both branches of the family gathered around a large table for the king to watch over was a vision both sweet and heartbreaking, as everyone could have guessed there would be no more moments like this.

House of the Dragon has managed to dispel a lot of the myths surrounding the Targaryen family name since the release of Game of Thrones, and this training scene was very important to that. Targaryen or not, claiming and training dragons took a lot of time and effort, and the children had to be very determined.

2. Daemon on a Battlefield

There's a lot that can be said about Daemon, but he's a mighty warrior willing to do whatever it takes to prove his worth. The third season and the battle with the Crabfeeder only proved that he will not be deterred by any danger in his path, not even death itself. Though he was quick to ruin everything for himself, his skills deserve praise.

1. Viserys' Route to the Iron Throne

No matter what you think of Viserys' character, he loved Rhaenyra as much as he could, and he must have felt some remorse for what he did, for he came to protect her when no one else could. Barely moving his legs, he made it to the throne and saved Rhaenyra and her line from imminent downfall.
