1. Severance – Season 2
Release Date: 2024
The Apple TV+ show was released in February 2022 but the buzz about it is still going strong. The main thing you need to know: Severance is a series that combines a detective thriller, social satire, and conversational drama.
The first season ended on a cliffhanger, but intrigue continued to swirl around the filming process. Work on the second season began in October 2022. However, production was halted due to strikes.
Despite the resumption of filming in November, Apple TV+ has not yet announced a release date. But considering that the first season was filmed for nine months, there is every reason to believe that we should see the second season in 2024.
2. True Detective – Season 4
Release Date: January 14, 2024
True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto decided to move the action of the fourth season to snowy Alaska, but stepped away from the showrunner's chair to let screenwriters Issa Lopez and Barry Jenkins develop the new installment.
In the story, detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro are tasked with investigating the disappearance of eight people from the Arctic Research Station team.
In the polar night conditions, traces of crime are easily covered with snow, and evidence suffers from the cold. To find the answers, the two detectives must unravel the town's dark history and explore their own controversial past.
3. Arcane – Season 2
Release Date: November, 2024
The animated adaptation of League of Legends has earned the title of one of the hottest hits in 2021. Arcane has been praised for carefully exploring the game's unique universe.
The first season explored multiple storylines, focusing on the relationship between the sisters, Vi and Powder, as well as a powerful artifact.
The season finale left viewers with a number of questions – what happened after the attack on the Piltover Council, will the alchemist Singed return with new dangerous inventions, and how will the relationship between the sisters remaining on opposite sides develop?
We will get answers in a little less than a year.
4. House of the Dragon – Season 2
Release Date: Summer, 2024
The tragic events of the first season of the Game of Thrones spin-off are only an exposition of the upcoming war described by George R. R. Martin in A Dance with Dragons. The first season slowly introduced viewers to the characters, trying to reveal each side of the future conflict as deeply as possible.
According to the show's scriptwriter Ryan Condal, working on the second season's plot seemed much easier to him because the major milestones in building suspense had already been passed – now the writers can put the characters on the warpath, let the dragons have their way, and cover them in the blood of their enemies.
According to the HBO bosses, the second season should be expected in the summer of 2024.
5. Avatar: The Last Airbender
Release Date: February 22, 2024
A live-action adaptation of the cult anime Avatar: The Last Airbender, in which Aang and his friends embark on a journey of self-discovery to free the world from the oppressive rule of the Fire Nation.
The success of the One Piece adaptation has eased skepticism about Netflix 's ability to successfully transfer a story from one format to another – the studio has clearly taken note of the failure of Cowboy Bebop.
The first Avatar trailer looks impressive, with detailed, fantastical imagery. However, the success of the series is in question after screenwriters Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko stepped down as executive producers due to creative differences with the studio.
6. 3 Body Problem
Release Date: March 21, 2024
The sci-fi show with fantasy elements will be the second big-screen adaptation of Liu Cixin's Remembrance of Earth's Past series, following a Chinese TV show released in early 2023.
Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss will bring the story of humanity's first contact with an alien civilization to the screen, immersing viewers in the reality of the approaching apocalypse – only instead of The White Walkers, aliens will now be the main threat.
Considering that Liu Cixin's trilogy is considered one of the most important sci-fi events of recent years, 3 Body Problem could become the new headliner and the most ambitious project after Game of Thrones.
7. The Penguin
Release Date: Fall, 2024
Matt Reeves' The Batman featured several charismatic Gotham characters, but audiences paid the most attention to Colin Farrell 's Penguin: the iconic DC Comics anti-hero and brutal gangster Oswald Cobblepot. Reeves will executive produce the spin-off, with Craig Zobel (Westworld ) attached to direct.
The plot will follow the events of the comic book series No Man's Land, about the struggle of Gotham's major villains for power over the city. According to DC chief James Gunn, The Batman and The Penguin will exist parallel to the main story in the Elseworlds segment.
8. Fallout
Release Date: April 12, 2024
The post-apocalyptic show based on the iconic Fallout game franchise that we all have been waiting (or not) for. The events of the game take place in a futuristic civilization of the future – part of humanity has taken refuge in a bunker, while the other continues to live on the surface, despite the devastating consequences of nuclear war.
It is not necessary to have played all of the Fallout games before watching – Amazon Studios' project will be based on its own original storyline, though the events will take place in a familiar setting – Vault 33. Considering the success of 2023's game adaptations, such as The Last of Us, the studio and the audience have high hopes for Fallout.
9. Echo
Release Date: January 10, 2024
The Hawkeye series introduced viewers to an unusual antagonist, Maya Lopez, a deaf and ruthless Mafia leader capable of copying the behavior of her opponents in battle like an echo. The spin-off will be a crime drama, and its plot promises to reveal Maya's backstory and her connection to Wilson Fisk, the New York underworld boss who took custody of the girl after her father's death.
The studio has already confirmed the appearance of Matt Murdock (Daredevil ) in the new project. MCU fans already have high hopes for the show, as the brutality and cruelty shown in the trailer is reminiscent of The Punisher, which captivated millions of viewers.
10. Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Release Date: February 2, 2024
A reboot of the 2005 movie of the same name about a married couple of undercover agents who are hired to kill each other. In the story, two strangers in search of a rich life get a job at a spy agency. The leadership offers them a life full of adventures and money, but with one condition: the two must sign up for an arranged marriage and take new names – John and Jane Smith.
Originally, the role of Jane Smith was supposed to be played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who, at the invitation of Donald Glover, was also going to write the show. However, due to creative differences, Waller-Bridge left the project and her role went to Maya Erskine.
