10 Mightiest Japanese Vampires from Anime Cooler Than Edward Cullen
These vampires are not afraid of sunlight or garlic, but have their own special traits.
If you've seen all the movies about vampires and think it's impossible to come up with anything new, then it's time for anime – the Japanese have their own special way of doing things, so get ready to see vampires like you've never seen them before.
1. Alucard (Hellsing)
Alucard (Dracula in reverse) is the highest of all vampires and one of the most powerful characters in anime. He is also known as the mightiest weapon of the Hellsing Organisation, whose goal is the destruction of supernatural creatures and evil spirits.
This anti-hero, with his philosophy and principles, despises those who are weaker than him, and fills his endlessly long life with battles against enemies, among whom he searches for someone who will defeat him and help him finally die.
2. D (Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust)
The main character of the anime is a mysterious vampire hunter and dhampir. This means that he is safe in the sun, because D is a half-breed. After being assigned to bring back the heiress of a wealthy family who ran away with a vampire, D sets out on a journey, not knowing that his rivals will be a powerful gang of vampire hunters.
The combination of a classic vampire story with cyberpunk and high quality graphics made this story iconic, and D himself had a great influence on subsequent images of vampires in anime.
3. Rai (Noblesse)
Rai is a representative of the noble race and the only holder of the title Noblesse, which means that he is the protector of the entire clan. But many want to destroy him and use Rai's power for their own benefit.
Thanks to an old friend, Rai starts attending a regular school and tries to adapt to the life of mere mortals, but it is not so easy for him – after all, he has been sleeping for the last 820 years.
4. Sunako (Shiki)
Sunako is 13 years old and supposedly suffers from a rare genetic disease that prevents her from being exposed to the sun. After she and her family arrive in a small mountain village, the locals start dying one by one, which the doctor at the village's only hospital begins to investigate.
Sunako gets very angry when she is treated like a child and sometimes shows extreme cruelty, which is not typical for a 13-year-old girl.
5. Dio Brando (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)
Dio Brando is the first major villain in the JoJo universe, and arguably the most powerful in the whole anime. He was completely immune to physical harm and could only be defeated by sunlight.
However, Dio is no stranger to respecting a truly strong opponent who can defeat him. Manga artist Hirohiko Araki wanted to create an absolute villain, so he was inspired by stories of famous criminals who had devilish charisma.
6. Irina Luminesk (Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut)
Irina Luminesk is a vampire, but not just any vampire, she is an astronaut, which makes her special in the supernatural world. After Irina became a vampire, she was offered to become a member of a space mission to explore planets. As the only vampire on the mission, Irina embarks on a journey that will change her life forever.
Reserve pilot Lev Leps is assigned to train her. Their views on life are completely different, but they share the same dream – which means they must find a common language for the sake of a mission.
7. Hikari Takanashi (Interviews with Monster Girls)
Hikari is a vampire, but she destroys almost all the myths about vampires that we know from legends. She loves to eat garlic and does not even react to the cross her sister wears around her neck. Hikari's only vampire trait is the need to drink human blood, without which she begins to suffer from anemia.
Along with three other monster girls, Hikari studies at a regular school, where she agrees to participate in the dissertation of a biology teacher who, in turn, wants to help her adapt to living among humans.
8. Draluc (The Vampire Dies in No Time)
Vampires are known for burning from sunlight and hating garlic and aspen stakes. But Lord Draluc doesn't need any of that, as he dies from literally anything – the vampire drinks milk instead of blood, loses to children in a fight, and turns to a pile of ash at the slightest threat.
When vampire hunter Ronaldo burns down his estate, mistakenly believing that Draluc has kidnapped a child, the vampire is forced to move into Ronaldo's home and begin working with him.
9. Staz (Blood Lad)
Staz has an incredible amount of power: at the very least, he comes from a mighty bloodline. In addition, his physical abilities are much better than those of an ordinary person, and his demonic magic is incredibly powerful.
One day, he falls in love with Fuyumi, an ordinary Japanese schoolgirl who was accidentally brought into the demon world, but Fuyumi dies and turns into a ghost. Vowing to protect her, Staz is now willing to do whatever it takes to bring the girl back to life.
10. Mina Tepes (Dance in the Vampire Bund)
A young (but only in appearance) vampire is actually an ambitious and experienced politician who cares for her people and thinks several steps ahead of her actions.
Mina wants to end the long-standing isolation of vampires and negotiates with the Japanese government to create a region in which her kind can live. But not everyone agrees with her, and tensions are brewing between the humans and radical vampire groups determined to sabotage her plans.
