Sequels are a complicated concept for fans to fully get behind. Even if the original characters have proven to be exciting heroes to follow and the original story needs to be expanded upon, most fans fear that producers will ruin the first film by trying to cash in on its popularity.
Sometimes, however, producers are able to convince fans that the sequel is not only inevitable, but actually necessary, and build anticipation for the sequel to a fever pitch. Unfortunately, the end result is not always to the fans' liking.

As you've probably noticed, all of the sequels on this list were made long after the originals premiered, suggesting that even the producers themselves weren't sure about the idea in the first place. However, despite the early uncertainty, the producers gave the green light to the sequels, probably hoping to achieve the universal acclaim of the originals.
Obviously, this didn't happen at all, as all of the aforementioned movies were panned by critics and fans alike, going down in history as some of the worst and most unnecessary sequels Hollywood has ever seen.
Let's hope producers learn from the disasters of the movies on this list and never greenlight a sequel if fans don't really want it.
