The best to spend an educational evening with.

There's a perfect way to learn something new while watching TV: documentary filmmakers combine their efforts to provide viewers with in-depth, thought-provoking films.

A documentary can be about anything, and you can choose to watch whatever you prefer: a true crime investigation, a sports drama about an iconic player, or simply a documentary about how light was invented.

Many streaming platforms are adding more and more documentaries to their libraries. Here are the best movies Hulu has to offer viewers with the highest Rotten Tomatoes scores.

1. Minding The Gap (2018) – 100%

The culture of skateboarding has been explored in depth in recent years. This documentary is one of the best to give us a glimpse into the lives of skaters. The film focuses on three skater friends, and filmmaker Bing Liu tries to find the connection between their upbringing and the complexities of modern masculinity. What's interesting is that the documentary was shot over the course of 12 years, so the footage is amazing.

2. Amazing Grace (2018) – 99%

Documentaries about musicians and iconic singers are our favorites. Throughout their lives, these people are either idolized or criticized for everything they do. Amazing Grace captures Aretha Franklin with a choir at the New Bethel Baptist Church in Los Angeles in 1972. Franklin is the kind of person who needs no introduction, but this powerful documentary may make you see her in a different light.

3. Dina (2017) – 97%

This amazing documentary gives viewers a profound portrayal of a very difficult relationship between Dina and Scott, as they both suffer from mental health issues. As their relationship develops, they decide to move in together before getting married, and overall the idea was great.

But Asperger's makes their lives harder in some ways, for example, they don't have an intimate relationship at all. Scott doesn't really see the need for that in his life, but it could be a problem for Dina.

4. Jawline (2019) – 97%

The premise of this documentary is as topical as anything: it explores the lives of Internet stars and how they actually manage to live in two realities. At the center of the film is a 16-year-old boy named Austyn Tester. He lives in a small town, but doesn't feel like he belongs there, so he creates a whole new persona and launches it into the digital world. The online fame is there for him, but how real is it?

5. The Cave (2019) – 97%

A real-life documentary about one of the greatest international rescue missions of our time. Thousands of people around the world unite to find a soccer team of 12 teenage boys and their 25-year-old coach who were trapped deep in a cave in Thailand. When they are found, many days after the search began, the volunteers face a seemingly impossible task to save them. And only one man can do it.

6. Raise Hell: The Life & Times Of Molly Ivins (2019) – 95%

Molly Ivins is a political journalist from Texas who is also one of the state's most popular and best-selling authors. She is also a Bill of Rights warrior, and that part of her life gets the most attention in this documentary. The brilliant writer's attempts to save the country from corruption is a perfect watch if you also believe in justice.

7. Sea Of Shadows (2019) – 94%

The documentary highlights the devastating environmental problem that has led to the extinction of the world's smallest whale. The reason is obvious: humans. The documentary shows how the natural habitat of these whales is being destroyed by Mexican cartels and the Chinese mafia who harvest the swim bladder of the totoaba fish. The movie tries to show how little is being done to save the environment — mainly due to how little we care.

8. Life, Animated (2016) – 94%

Another documentary with a mentally challenged man at the center of the story. When Owen Suskind was three years old, he was diagnosed with autism, and his parents seemed to have lost hope that he would become a normal boy.

In fact, Owen struggled a lot to understand what life is, but with the help of animated movies, especially Disney World, he begins to understand life through the stories of the movies. The heartwarming story about how hard it gets for the people with mental issues.

9. The Biggest Little Farm (2018) – 91%

The three words that can easily describe this documentary are uplifting, educational, and entertaining. The Biggest Little Farm is an environmental awareness film that invites viewers to join the filmmakers in their belief in a better future. At the center of the film is a couple who live through the ups and downs of running a 200-acre farm.

10. Meeting Gorbachev (2018) - 86%

Well, there are many documentaries about famous people, but none of them are as fascinating as those about the great political figures. And trust us, Mikhail Gorbachev, former president of the Soviet Union, is definitely one of them. So this documentary is a must see for history buffs.
