Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" is often cited as one of the greatest horror films ever made, and it's not hard to see why. Kubrick's trademark formalism and King's ingenious plotting proved to be a great match, resulting in a movie that can still scare the hell out of you even after forty years.

However, King was always quite critical of Kubrick's adaptation of his book, citing many inconsistencies between the movie and the book.

Here are 10 differences between the book and movie versions of "The Shining".

Stephen King is undoubtedly one of the most popular writers working today, with an illustrious career that has produced more than 50 books of horror, almost all of which have been adapted into Hollywood films.

However, King is a rather snobbish movie buff himself, and the fact that Kubrick chose his book to adapt never made King cut the universally acclaimed director any slack.

King was furious that Kubrick decided to shift the focus from supernatural powers to Jack Torrens' mental illness, arguing that the director had disregarded the story of the book.

Of course, the film community stood by Kibrick and continued to praise his movie throughout the decade, but King, as the author of "The Shining," certainly has the right to hate on the movie, don't you think?
