10 Best Anime from MAPPA Besides Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen

Ancient dragons, mighty demons, and schoolboy jazz musicians.

In recent years, MAPPA has become one of the most recognized anime studios. It has produced four popular titles at once – Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, and Vinland Saga.

We will introduce you to the studio's other works, which, although not as popular, deserve no less attention.

1. The God of High School, 2020

The God of High School martial arts tournament has begun in South Korea, with the grand prize being the fulfillment of any wish. During a fight between two contestants, schoolboy Mori Jin saves one of the contestants from being brutally beaten. To keep his place in the tournament, Mori challenges one of the judges.

However, during the fight, the opponent unleashes an unknown supernatural power. Suddenly, a schoolboy learns that magic exists and that some people can borrow power from the gods.

2. Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill, 2023

Tsuyoshi Mukouda is a Japanese man who was summoned to a fantasy world to fight demons. Instead of combat magic, however, the man was given a strange ability.

It allows him to buy the most common items sold in any grocery store in Japan. The man quickly realized that he couldn't fight with such powers, and gave up his heroic career.

On his way to a neighboring country, Tsuyoshi began to cook food. Its appetizing smell attracted one of the most powerful local monsters – the legendary Fenrir. The beast demanded food and was so pleased that he forced Tsuyoshi to sign a contract with him.

3. Kids on the Slope, 2012

Summer of 1966. An introverted student and gifted pianist, Kaoru transfers to a new school. There he meets a local bully, Sentaro, who turns out to be a nice guy and introduces Kaoru to the world of jazz. The friends decide to form their own jazz band in the back room of a record store.

Despite the retro style and atmosphere of the sixties, this story will remind you of your young years, even if you didn't listen to jazz.

4. Inuyashiki, 2017

Because of his unfortunate past, Inuyashiki appears to be in his 70s even though he is only over 50. When he receives a cancer diagnosis, his life becomes even worse, and not even his family offers him sympathy.

Just as he is about to cry outside his house, an alien spacecraft crashes into Inuyashiki, killing him. The aliens choose to use modifications to recreate his complete body.

Inuyashiki becomes a cyborg who is now stronger than any other human. He decides to use his new abilities to help people in need.

5. Dorohedoro, 2020

The events take place in a world where magicians use humans for gruesome experiments. One of the victims was a man with the nickname Caiman. An unknown sorcerer turned the poor fellow into a lizard man and stole his memory.

Caiman woke up in the local ghetto. Luckily, he was noticed by the owner of the local restaurant. The two quickly found a common language and began a bloody hunt for sorcerers, hoping to find the memory thief.

6. Dororo, 2019

To win the civil war and save his nation, a Japanese commander strikes a pact with demons. In return, the demons remove various bodily parts and organs from Hyakkimaru, his newborn son.

The infant survives despite the father's orders to have him disposed of, and ends up in the care of a doctor who replaces the taken away body parts with prosthesis.

Years later, an unusual young man goes on a journey to find all the demons and take his body parts from them. Along the way, he meets a boy named Dororo who joins him.

7. Terror in Resonance, 2014

The action takes place in modern-day Tokyo, where a series of terrorist attacks occur. The unknown terrorist organization Sphinx, consisting of only two teenagers with the strange nicknames Nine and Twelve, takes responsibility for the events.

During the first bombing of the shopping mall, Twelve unexpectedly meets his classmate Lisa. The young man suddenly gives the girl a harsh ultimatum: die on the spot or become their accomplice.

Forced to fight for her life, Lisa accepts the criminal's terms. Gradually, the anime reveals the tragic past of the young men and explains their motives.

8. Rage of Bahamut, 2014-2017

In the distant past, the entire world was threatened by the giant dragon Bahamut. A common enemy united angels, demons, and humans. Working together, the races were able to seal the monster and prevent disaster.

But two thousand years later, an unknown person stole one of the two keys that held Bahamut back.

At the same time, a mysterious girl named Amira fell from heaven to earth. The fall broke her compass, and she began searching for someone to show her the way to Helheim, a kingdom beneath the snow and ice where her mother lives.

9. Ushio & Tora, 2015-2016

The anime centers on Ushio, who finds the entrance to a mysterious cellar in the courtyard of his house. When he opened the shutters, he fell down, awakening the ancient demon Tora, who was chained to a spear.

It turned out that the spear had been holding the monster back for about five hundred years. Tora immediately demands to be freed and threatens Ushio.

While Ushio and Tora argue, local demons sense the awakened beast and begin to rush to the cellar. At that moment, Ushio's love, his classmate Asako, comes to visit him. To save her life, Ushio was forced to take a risk and release Tora.

10. Days, 2016

Jin, a fifteen-year-old soccer genius, has just transferred to a new school. For some reason, the new kid invites his clumsy classmate Tsukushi to be his player in a small soccer match. Jin, like the rest of the team, expects nothing from the boy, and therefore does not even get angry when he stumbles and falls.

After the first tryout, Tsukushi decided to join a soccer club. But the reality was cruel – he is too weak and cannot withstand the intensity of training. But Tsukushi is not one to give up.
