1 Glee BTS Couple You Forgot Even Happened (Sorry For Reminding)
Some things are better forgotten.
Summary:
- Glee was a musical television series that aired on Fox from 2009 to 2015.
- The show focused on the lives of everyone involved in a high school choir called New Directions.
- It turned out that two of the show's stars, Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison, who portrayed a student and her teacher, were dating off-screen.
If you were an active member of the Glee fandom in the early 2010s, you know how intense online communities can get. Gleeks were all over social media back then, mostly fighting each other to get their favorites the title of best ship or best singer on the show.
Considering the amount of talent in the cast of Glee, the battle was always going to be intense. While it's hard to deny the vocal range of Lea Michele, it's too easy to pick on her obnoxious character Rachel Berry. The same goes for Darren Criss and his Blaine Anderson.
What fans weren't really careful with back then was respecting the personal lives of the cast members, always looking for some scandalous news and behind-the-scenes relationships that never existed. Of course, as it was later revealed, several cast members ended up in romantic relationships, but none of them were given any privacy.
From Lea Michele's love story with Cory Monteith to Naya Rivera's ill-fated relationship with Mark Salling, most of the couples are still well remembered by old-time fans. One, however, happened so long ago and created so much resistance in the minds of the public that people are still forgetting it ever happened.
Lea Michele And Matthew Morrisson Before Glee
Every few months, old pictures of Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele looking lovingly at each other resurface, sending fans spiraling down the rabbit hole of all the unknown facts of the cast's personal lives. This time, it was an X (formerly known as Twitter) post that sparked the discussion.
The relationship between the two co-stars was brief and ended before Glee was even created. Both Morrison and Michele worked on Broadway and were closely involved in their theater work. During that time, they became friends and eventually dated for a while.
Though both avoided or denied the allegations for quite some time, the truth came out in Lea Michele's book Brunette Ambition, which was published in 2014. The star didn't go into details, keeping the confirmation simple:
“When we shot the pilot, I met Cory Monteith, Kevin McHale, Amber Riley, and Chris Colfer for the first time. I had worked on Broadway with Jenna Ushkowitz and Matthew Morrison before. Matt had been a friend of mine for years, and in fact, we'd actually dated back in the day for a Broadway beat,” the actress wrote.
What makes the relationship so cringe-worthy are the characters that the actors on Glee portray. The fact that they play a teacher and a student almost suggests an inappropriate age gap, and the storyline with Rachel's one-sided crush does not make it any better.
If you still want to watch Glee and are sure that this news won't affect your vision of the show, you can stream it on Hulu.
