'Call Me by Your Name' Sequel is Still on the Cards, According to Luca Guadagnino

Talk about a potential sequel to 'Call Me by Your Name' surfaced almost immediately after the triumph of the original film, which received four Oscar nominations and won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. The second film was supposed to bring back all the main characters of the first part, onve again reuniting Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer on screen, but the pandemic slowed down the pre-production process significantly, and the sex scandal around Armie Hammer made the situation even worse – to the point where many questioned whether the sequel was even worth making.

Despite all the difficulties, a sequel is still very much on the cards. At least that's what director Luca Guadagnino said in an interview with IndieWire, celebrating his latest passion project, Timothée Chalamet-led 'Bones and All ', screening at Telluride Film Festival.

The filmmaker did not share details about the sequel or touch on the sensitive subject of Armie Hammer being basically 'canceled' at this point. At the same time, Guadagnino admitted that a sequel to 'Call Me by Your Name' is still in the plans, and also talked at length about Timothée Chalamet's involvement. Considering the source material and the fact that Guadagnino himself visibly enjoys working with the young actor, Chalamet returning in the sequel is all but guaranteed. Another question is what Guadagnino is going to do about Armie Hammer, who after a series of scandals and provocative revelations about his dubious hobbies has virtually disappeared from Hollywood.

In the fall of 2019, André Aciman, who penned the original 'Call Me by Your Name' novel, published a book sequel 'Find Me', but whether the novel will be used by Guadagnino is not yet known.
