Needless to say, Young Sheldon has worked even if others claimed a spin-off to The Big Bang Theory would never be good, including none other than the original Sheldon, Jim Parsons.

The series was recently picked up for a seventh season and has become a mainstay on CBS, just like its predecessor.

It's even won over Parsons, who was initially reluctant at the idea of a spin-off, yet has become a part of the series as a narrator and executive producer.

Still, there are others that are not necessarily happy with the unfamiliar territory Young Sheldon is venturing into. For many, Young Sheldon is making the mistake of diverting away from the main purpose of the show.

The first few seasons of Young Sheldon were mainly about the titular character. Now, over time (and with each passing season), the show has branched out to present the perspectives and lives of some of the characters related to Sheldon.

As a result, he hasn't been as prominent in recent seasons, which some Redditors say isn't necessarily a bad thing.

According to one Redditor, Young Sheldon was always destined to serve as an origin story. For this reason, a big part of the TV series is to show the other individuals in Sheldon's life that helped transform him into the menace he was on TBBT.

Consequently, as Sheldon matures and gets older, he is no longer as involved with the family, and vice versa. The focus shifted from the main character as he prepared to go to college.

One Redditor makes a strong argument insisting that the writers of Young Sheldon never intended to carry this origin story on for so long.

As a result, they have stretched their limitations regarding Sheldon, and are instead focusing on other characters as the show progresses into a seventh season.

The sentiment is shared by other audience members who believe Young Sheldon is more than its main character. The show is also about the events in Sheldon's life and the experiences at home and school that shape his persona.

There's not as much of him in the new season because Sheldon's just not as involved with the other characters as he was in previous seasons.

There are many intriguing insights into Young Sheldon, including one Redditor's take that the series is meant to show what really happened in the early years, as opposed to what Sheldon claimed happened in TBBT.

Thus, the direction of the last couple of seasons has diverted more of the attention to other members of the Cooper family. It may be a mistake, but this direction was inevitable, Redditors argue.

However, not everyone is disappointed in the shift away from Sheldon. There are many fans that enjoy learning more about the family members and classmates that helped shape the character.

Sure, the focus has shifted, yet not everyone objects. "I would love if [the writers] just continue the storyline of the family while Sheldon heads off [to] Pasadena," one Redditor concluded.
