The epic fight won’t be as long as everyone thought it would.

House of the Dragon ’s season 2 has been around with already 3 episodes out, but the Blacks and the Greens’ crucial game players are still there and eager to fight more than ever before.

The show has yet to introduce the long-promised bloody war between the Targaryens which, as George R.R. Martin’s book series lovers know, will be quick to eliminate some of the teams’ pivotal members.

Though the whole fight is set to make its way to the show in the following episodes, with many believing that we’re likely to see the war unfolding sometime in season 3, House of the Dragon has already given some major spoilers about who eventually won’t survive the upcoming battles, and most of those hints are tricky enough to be that obvious.

Spoiler alert, the text will from now on mention the characters that, according to George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, will die during the war between the Blacks and the Greens.

Jacaerys Velaryon

Rhaenyra’s other son’s tragic passing is foreshadowed in House of the Dragon’s season 2 episode 3. The scene catches Jacaerys and Baela Targaryen, his cousin and potential future wife, having an unexpected encounter outside the castle. Baela is seemingly practicing her fighting skills and aiming her crossbow somewhere Jace appears out of nowhere.

Eventually she doesn’t shoot her arrow at Jacaerys, but the whole scene comes as a clear prediction for what is coming next for Jacaerys.

In George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, Jace is killed by a crossbow bolt during the Battle of the Gullet when he rides his dragon low enough to be targeted by the enemies’ forces.

Aegon Targaryen

The Greens’ King and the current owner of the Iron Throne, Aegon also finds his death because of the war, but mostly due to its consequences that severely affected his health.

House of the Dragon’s season 2 episode 3 features a non-obvious, yet sinister omen for Aegon’s future when the latter approaches a mirror to look at himself and the frame shows half of his face and chest shadowed, hinting at major injuries he will end up with after the war against the Blacks.

According to Fire & Blood, Aegon gets partially burned, left with horrifying scars and even part of his armor melted into his skin.

Aegon’s physical inability to run Westeros afterwards causes yet another major problem for the court which is resolved soon after the end of the war with Aegon dying after drinking wine that was poisoned by an unknown person.

Daemon Targaryen

House of the Dragon’s season 2 episode 3 sees Daemon rushing out of Dragonstone after a fight with Rhaenyra and trying to capture Harrenhal which could potentially become the Blacks’ ally in the upcoming war, but eventually meets no resistance there.

Instead, Daemon is haunted by eerie visions of young Rhaenyra and tries to escape his inner demons by wandering around Harrenhal when Alys Rivers shows up with an even more sinister message.

The character’s single phrase “You will die in this place” foreshadows Daemon’s passing, but not in a very literal sense as the character will later on have a fierce dragon battle with Aemond Targaryen, which will result in both characters’ deaths.

Though Daemon’s body was never found afterwards, he technically passed away in Harrenhal and, what’s more, his dragon Caraxes will crawl back to Harrenhal eventually dying there too.

Rhaenyra Targaryen

House of the Dragon’s brand new season has had nothing yet to say about Rhaenyra’s approaching death, but the event was actually foreseen back in season 1.

In episode 4, Daemon and young Rhaenyra travel to King’s Landing at night disguised as common citizens and eventually stumble upon a woman who asks Rhaenyra whether she wanted to know how she would die.

When Rhaenyra agrees to hear the prophecy, the episode shows one of the dragons spitting fire — ironically, the overlooked scene is the exact prediction of Rhaenyra’s passing.

In the original book, the Blacks’ leader seizes King’s Landing and has the Iron Throne to herself, but then commoners suddenly turn their backs on her which forces Rhaenyra to go back to Dragonstone.

There, she gets trapped and betrayed by her allies, eventually dying of being burnt by a dragon’s fire, a gruesome death penalty ordered by her half-brother Aegon II.
