X-Citing News: Are Mulder and Scully Making a Comeback in The X-Files Revival?
The X-Files without Mulder and Scully? Impossible.
Fox was less than a decade old when it launched The X-Files as the breakthrough show that would put the network on the map the way Twin Peaks had done for ABC. The X-Files was squeezed into a rather awkward time slot, sandwiched between other compelling TV dramas like Law & Order and ER.
But The X-Files pilot worked thanks to three factors: creator Chris Carter's bet on exploring viewers' belief in alien abductions, a brilliant cast, and the promise of being the first dark mystery show on cable. The mix gave the show a nine-year run, two feature films, and a two-season revival in the late 2010s.
The X-Files Is About to Receive a Reboot
Last year, it was announced that the X-Files reboot would be helmed by the director of two Black Panther films, Ryan Coogler, and Carter said his colleague has good ideas for a new project.
David Duchovny Is Positive About His Comeback
But should we expect Mulder and Scully, beloved by millions, in the reboot? Judging by the comments of the actors, this is quite possible.
David Duchovny was asked if he was ready to return, to which the actor gave a very encouraging answer:
“It’s an interesting question. That show can address the present as well as it addressed the ’90s. It just depends on Chris [Carter] or the other writers. I’m always like, “Hey, let’s see.”
Gillian Anderson No Longer Rejects the Idea of Returning
Gillian Anderson was not so positive about her return to the new project until recently. The actress was sure that after such a long journey in the original show and additional seasons, the story of Dana Scully was over for her.
However, the actress recently admitted the possibility that she could return to the famous role:
“Whether I am involved in it is a whole other thing. I’m not saying no. I think he’s [Ryan Coogler] really cool and I think if he did it, it would probably be done incredibly well.”
A unique project of its time, The X-Files became a collection of urban myths, a box of conspiracy surprises, fascinating chemistry between the two main characters that kept the viewer on a short leash of the nerve-wracking romance of a platonic relationship.
However, the 2016 and 2018 revivals received rather mixed reviews. At the same time, it seems that both Chris Carter and the two leads have absolute faith in Ryan Coogler and his project. All we can do is wait for official information and believe.
