With Justified: City Primeval’s finale fast approaching, fans fear that the series might be steering their favorite character in the wrong romantic direction.

The new spinoff series to the hit crime drama Justified explores Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens further as he finds himself in Detroit trying to catch the Oklahoma Wildman. Defense attorney Carolyn Wilder is giving Raylan a hand with the case, but there is definitely more going on between them.

Raylan’s ex-wife Winona is out of the picture, which means this man of law is now free for grabs, and Carolyn seems to be the one who is doing the grabbing. The two colleagues have had a fling in the spinoff series, but viewers are now concerned that the Justified: City Primeval writers might try to stick Raylan with Carolyn for the long haul – this would literally be the worst move that the series can make in the finale.

The audience doesn’t have anything against Carolyn. In fact, her and Raylan’s relationship is fun to watch, but there’s no logical way for them to remain (or even become) a couple upon the show’s conclusion.

One Reddit user has aptly summed it up. Raylan needs to come back to Miami to be with his daughter (since their relationship is also one of the high points of the spinoff), and his staying in Detroit simply doesn’t make any sense.

Carolyn has no incentive to come with Raylan to Miami either. She is a grown woman with a life and career in Detroit – why would she give all that up for a two-week fling that has no future? After all, it’s not like Raylan and Carolyn are in love or anywhere close to this.

Even if Carolyn decides to leave Detroit and start from scratch somewhere new, it probably won’t be in Miami with Raylan. She just doesn’t seem to be the type of gal to do a thing like that. Although, Raylan can be acting chivalrous and end up inviting Carolyn to stay with him in Miami to get to know each other better and see where things go.

However, this doesn’t really sound like the appropriate finale for a show like Justified: City Primeval. We guess we’ll see soon enough.

Tune in to Justified: City Primeval’s finale on Tuesday, August 29, at 10 p.m. ET/PT!
