Whovians Try to Deduce Jonathan Groff’s Mysterious Character
Could it be another person for the Doctor to love?
Summary:
- Doctor Who is a British sci-fi TV series that has celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2023.
- The new series starring Ncuti Gatwa as the 15th Doctor is set to begin in May 2024.
- In the trailer, there was a moment of slow dancing between the Doctor and Jonathan Groff’s mysterious character.
- Fans are trying to guess, what role in Doctor’s life will Groff’s character play.
Even though there is still a long way to go until May 2024, Doctor Who fans are already buzzing with excitement about the upcoming series. Not only will it be the start of a whole new Doctor and companion duo, portrayed by Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson, but it will also mark the beginning of a whole new era for the show, now produced with Disney Plus.
From what fans have seen in the trailer and the numerous announcements leading up to it, the show is going to be filled with great guest stars. From BAFTA winner Lenny Rush to two-time RuPaul's Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon, there was one appearance that had viewers buzzing.
Jonathan Groff, known to audiences from TV's Mindhunter and his excessive theater work, joins Doctor Who in the role of a yet-to-be-named character who will charm the Doctor enough for a slow dance, but then put a gun to his chest. Of course, such a moment didn't go unnoticed by the sharp-eyed fans and sent them into detective mode.
Captain Jack Harkness's Comeback
With all the controversy that John Barrowman has faced over the years, it is unlikely that we will ever see him again.
However, the charismatic, flirtatious Captain, who is dearly missed by the fandom, would be more than welcome to return with a new face if the Doctor Who universe could find an explanation for a change. Considering that he was introduced during Russell. T. Davies' first Doctor Who era, the chances for a return are quite high.
The New Master
Why not bring back the charming villain and give him a new face to match the new Doctor? The relationship between the Doctor and the Master has always walked a fine line between hatred, obsession, and flirtation, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the two doing a slow dance.
The only problem is that fans already find the Doctor's back-and-forth with the Master a bit repetitive, so it might be best to come up with a very fresh idea before bringing him back.
A Mischievous Love Interest
As we all learned from the 60th specials, the Doctor is now more open about his emotions than ever. He knows what love is, he's experienced it many times before, and he'll know it again.
Perhaps there is a way for this story to end happily without breaking anyone's heart. That would certainly be the beginning of something new, as all the previous Doctor's light romances have left viewers in shambles.
