What is Greyscale in 'House of the Dragon', and Why Should Daemon Fans Be Concerned?
For the uninitiated, it kind of sounds like another dragon name, but this time, it's a bit worse than that.
After the premiere of the third episode of 'House of the Dragon ', fans got to know Craghas Crabfeeder better — and have a closer look at him as well. However, people are now concerned about Daemon, who defeated the Crabfeeder and was left covered in his blood, which might not be a good thing.
Many fans theorized that Craghas in fact had greyscale — a disease in the 'Game of Thrones ' universe that leaves one's skin hard and dead like a stone. This disease is usually fatal, although several characters were able to survive the disease and even fully recover. However, those who had it and recovered from it will have to bear their scars for the rest of their life.
The Crabfeeder does fit the description of someone who could have greyscale: he wears a mask, and his face looks petrified, even though one might as well think it is a result of a burn. But if Graghas truly has greyscale in 'House of the Dragon', then it might not be a good thing for Daemon to be covered in his blood that might as well infect him with the disease.
However, some fans argue that Daemon might be safe even if Craghas is a greyscale survivor.
"He definitely survived greyscale like Shireen (if he didn't, he would surely look significantly worse after a 3-year timeskip), which means he doesn't spread it to other people." - /Targaryen_1243
Besides, the Targaryens are believed to be more resistant to sickness due to their blood (after all, aren't they closer to gods than to men?), even though it does not guarantee them immunity. Some fans also joked that "plot armor" will protect Daemon, meaning that he won't get infected and die simply because he is one of the main characters... which has never been a reliable protection in the world of George R.R. Martin if you think about it.
As fans continue to debate on whether Craghas had greyscale and how worried they have to be about Daemon, it would seem that only time will tell. There are seven episodes left until season 1 finale, which is due to arrive in late October.
'House of the Dragon' is currently streaming on HBO Max, with new episodes premiering every Sunday.
