'Way Bigger': Here's What to Expect From 'Across the Spider-Verse' Sequel, According to Creators
Fans have been disappointed to learn that the premiere of the Miles Morales sequels was delayed, but it seems the wait is worth it.
During CinemaCon on Monday, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the creators of 'Across the Spider-Verse' teased that the upcoming sequel is going to be "way, way, way bigger" than the original animated movie.
Here goes: there are going to be at least 240 characters (a stark contrast to the previous number of 40 that featured in the first movie) and six universes. Aside from this, the sequel is going to take some 1,000 people to work on the movie, compared to 800 crew members from the first part.
Back in December, Phil Lord and Chris Miller told Entertainment Weekly that the sequel is going to feature many alternate universes that are going to look and feel "radically different".
Not much is already known about the plot, with the producers only teasing that Miles and Spider-Gwen are going to get together and embark on a thrilling multidimensional journey. The movie is also expected to bring back Jessica Drew voiced by Issa Rae, along with Oscar Isaac 's Spider-Man 2099/Miguel O'Hara.
At CinemaCon, some footage from the movie was teased, hinting that Jessica Drew is pregnant, but this fact will not prevent her from teaming up with Gwen and O'Hara to fight the Vulture, according to a recap from The Wrap. Meanwhile Miles is going to have to deal with his college aspirations, wanting to join Columbia and develop a multiverse-jumping science project.
Looks like the animated Spider-Verse is really going to be as big as it possibly can. However, due to the earlier announced delays, fans will have to wait a bit longer to dive into it: the first part of the sequel was rescheduled from October 2022 to June 2, 2023. The second part is set to premiere on March 29, 2024.
