Walker’s Jared Padalecki Still Can’t Bid Farewell to the Show: ‘Stupid Me'
It’s never easy to say goodbye.
With as many changes as The CW has undergone in recent years, the cancellation of all of its original programming was almost inevitable. Those who have followed the network's journey are more surprised that even one show, All American, remains stronger than all the others that have been cut, no matter what their ratings.
Along with All American, Walker was one of the network's strongest titles. A reboot of the iconic '90s action series, it was showing strong numbers and would likely be just as successful in the future. However, the show was canceled after season 4, and Jared Padalecki is still struggling to come to terms with the news.
Why Was Walker Canceled?
While there was no official explanation as to why the show was canceled, the news came after the long-awaited rebranding of its original network, The CW. Some shows, like Flash or Riverdale, which were nearing their respective finales, were lucky enough to get them filmed and aired. Others, like Walker, will have to deal with an abrupt end.
Jared Padalecki, who not only starred as Walker but also executive produced the show, admits that he believed it could be saved until the very end. Given his previous success with Gilmore Girls and Supernatural, Padalecki hoped that Walker would get the same treatment.
“So I kind of, stupid me, I was hoping and assuming the same might happen… I knew there was a chance. There’s always a chance that the show’s not going to go, but I was like, “Well, we’re still the most watched. We’re not expensive.” So I didn’t know what to expect, and I haven’t yet had time to have closure with Walker,” he admitted to TVLine.
Given how quickly everything has happened, and how much buzz there is already for Padalecki to either join Eric Kripke's The Boys or begin work on a long-awaited Supernatural reunion, it's not surprising that the actor is still struggling to find closure on Walker. Still, parting ways with The CW is an exciting step and a chance for reevaluation.
As Padalecki admits, the experience of being an executive producer on the show has been an eye-opener, and given the current state of the industry, he has a lot to think about before moving forward. If you, too, need to take a break, you can always go back and watch Walker online, streaming on Max.
