Recently, Vin Diesel made a big promise considering the future of the F&F franchise, but the Fast X director claims that the franchise’s Godfather lied to the fans. How so?

After the debatable success of Fast X — while the movie grossed over $704M worldwide, it still didn’t even break even — the question of the franchise’s future is up in the air…for others, but not for Vin Diesel.

The actor recently revealed that he wanted to continue Fast X into a full-blown trilogy to wrap up the grand saga!

“I can say this: going into making [Fast & Furious 11], the studio asked if this could be a two-parter. And after the studio saw [Fast X], they said, ‘Could you make Fast X, the finale, a trilogy?’ So yeah,” Vin Diesel shared on the red carpet in Rome, Italy.

His co-star, Michelle Rodriguez, immediately tuned in and seemingly confirmed the franchise’s Godfather’s words by hinting that “it’s three arcs in any story.” As the reporter started going crazy over the news of the Fast X trilogy incoming, Diesel and Rodriguez promptly ran off to avoid giving any further clarifications.

This news understandably made quite a buzz, but as excited (or frustrated) as the audience got, it might have been in vain. According to the director of Fast X, Louis Letterier, it was a lie, and the F&F’s Godfather just blurted the trilogy promises out to escape from the reporters as soon as possible. Here’s what Letterier said.

“The one thing about Vin is like when he’s on a press line, he will say anything to get out of that press line. And I’m kind of like him and go, ‘Yeah, sure, we will go to the moon in the next one. Bye.’ And then you never forget! Obviously, the next one is coming, and then yeah, one movie at a time,” the director pointed out.

To avoid sounding too accusing of Vin Diesel, though, he also tried to come up with a possible explanation for the actor’s words, but it didn’t sound all too convincing to us.

“I mean maybe what he was saying is that there’s 25 years of filmmaking and storytelling, three acts, two hours and two movies, between the last one and this one, might not be enough to tell the story that is needed, and that’s what we’re figuring out these days," Leterrier explained.

Admittedly, the matter of how many movies to make is still up in the air, and it’s too early to celebrate or get frustrated over the Fast X trilogy that got everyone so excited. Vin Diesel might have accidentally confused everybody or straight-up lied, but we’re sure that this man will do anything to make his beloved franchise thrive.
