Vin Diesel Claims His Fast & Furious Is Just Like The Lord of the Rings
Now this is an unexpected connection and a half, isn't it? According to the franchise's Godfather Vin Diesel, Fast & Furious is the LotR of action movies.
At first glance, there's nothing similar between The Lord of the Rings saga and the Fast & Furious franchise. At the second, fifth, and tenth glances, this doesn't really change.
One's a classical high fantasy book series with arguably the most profound lore out there, and the other is an action movie series with or about exploding cars.
Obviously, if someone started seriously comparing the two sources, you'd probably laugh out loud.
"You clearly know nothing about the LotR universe, bud," you would likely tell them. And we would back you up there, too… In the usual scenario.
But what if these words came from Vin Diesel himself?
The actor's known to be a proud geek, and he definitely knows all about LotR, D&D, and all that good stuff. Still, the actor made this most peculiar claim in his recent interview with Variety.
"There's a reason Tolkien stopped writing after a while: because it's so hard to continue mythologies! Nobody thinks about it in that context but it's real, it's not the easiest thing in the world. [Fast & Furious] is The Lord of the Rings of action, it's so true… I should've stopped after The Hobbit," Vin Diesel explained to the reporter.
As a massive geek, Vin Diesel's statement should've held a bit more water than it did: it starts falling apart in the very first sentence because Tolkien never stopped writing until his death.
But even apart from that, the fans were divided on the matter, and many started ridiculing the Fast & Furious Godfather.
"Fast & Furious is a mythology in the same way dead bees are a pizza topping," noted Luke Matthews sarcastically.
But not everyone is hating on Vin Diesel for this unobvious comparison: there are many people who show him support and understanding, too.
"I understand him completely. He has ten movies of lore and canon to keep track of. I mean Marvel has a whole team in that but this franchise is pretty much just him. Also, he's a massive geek so of course he references JRR," said Ricky D. Bryan.
No matter whose side you're on, one thing is clear: Vin Diesel made some waves again, and this is always good news for his movies…
Especially after the recent conflicts and the announcement of the next Fast & Furious entry without Diesel.
Whether those changes shall pass or not, we shall see.
