Vampire Diaries’ Paul Wesley Just Revealed How He Nailed His Stefan Audition
Wesley took a rather unusual approach in order to get the role.
For eight seasons, viewers of The Vampire Diaries followed the intrigues of supernatural creatures in the town of Mystic Falls and the love triangle between the Salvatore vampire brothers and mortal Elena Gilbert.
Adapted from the book series of the same name by Lisa Jane Smith, it became a successful project on The CW and received several award nominations.
The show has been the source of an ongoing and never-ending controversy among fans – who should Elena stay with? Damon or Stefan? Let everyone have their own opinion, but for now we will tell you how Paul Wesley, who played the younger brother, Stefan, nailed his audition by using a rather unusual approach:
“Nina [Dobrev], who was already cast as the lead girl was there. And everybody in that audition room during that process was kissing her ass. […] And I was like, f**k that. I’m not going to look her in the eye and I’m also not going to introduce myself. […] Not because I was trying to be rude, but because in the scene, we were supposed to not know who one another is.”
As a result, the actors met for the first time during the audition, as Wesley had planned. And it worked perfectly. Nina and Paul were able to feign genuine surprise when their characters ran into each other in the school hallway.
Paul still credits this little trick with landing him a role on one of the most popular shows of the 2010s.
At the end of The Vampire Diaries, Damon and a human-turned-Stefan attempt to destroy Katherine, Elena's evil doppelganger. They find a way to kill Katherine, and Damon is willing to sacrifice himself to do it by staying with the vampire in the catacombs to send her to hell.
Stefan disagrees with his brother's choice – he gives him a cure for vampirism and saves him, dying along with Katherine. In the world between life and death, he meets Elena and says goodbye to her.
