Turns out Mom wasn't the only one worried about Kevin, and Harry and Marv had their own Christmas song!

Summary

  • The first installment of Home Alone is well remembered by young and old alike, but there are many more never-before-seen moments from the movie.
  • YouTube's Special Features channel has released more than 15 minutes of hilarious deleted footage.
  • This year, Home Alone is available on streaming services as well as traditional television.

The original 1990 Home Alone, starring Macaulay Culkin as the resourceful (and sometimes sadistic) Kevin, is undoubtedly the best movie to watch every Christmas, including this one. But did you know that the comedy, beloved by more than one generation, contained more than a few hilarious scenes that were unfortunately cut?

Luckily, the Internet has made these scenes available for all to see, as a full 16 minutes of deleted footage has been posted to the Special Features YouTube channel. Some of the moments presented expand on those shown in the film, such as Harry (Joe Pesci) checking the 'security' of local homes in a fake police uniform. Others were not shown at all, but add no small amount of hilarious and heartbreaking context.

The duo of Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern was one of the main highlights of the movie: even though they played the villains, let's be honest, we all laughed at their humor and worried about their serious injuries from booby traps. As it turned out, there were supposed to be a lot more funny scenes with them, like Harry's almost philosophical musings about people becoming 'too cynical, too jaded' and the 'moral decay of contemporary society.' No, we certainly agree, given how the family treated Kevin, but in the context of having such reflections provided by a literal thief makes the scene incredibly funny and ironic.

They also had their own take on the song Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town. Now these are the ones who have definitely felt the Christmas spirit!

Where to Stream Home Alone?

If, after watching the deleted scenes, you have a renewed desire to watch one of the best Christmas comedies ever made, there are several ways to do so online. First, since Home Alone was produced and distributed by 20th Century Studios, which is now owned by Disney, the movie itself, as well as its two sequels, are now available on Disney+ — which makes sense, considering it's primarily a family story, right?

The basic ad-supported plan costs $7.99 per month, and the ad-free plan, which allows you to download certain content, costs $13.99 per month.

Also starting in January, the first three installments of Home Alone will be available on Hulu, with a subscription costing $7.99 per month (first-timers can take advantage of a seven-day free trial). Another option for US residents may be streaming the movie via Amazon Prime Video if you have a Starz subscription: Prime is $14.99 per month after a thirty-day free trial, and Starz is $9.99 after a seven-day free trial.

Also, the original Home Alone is always available to rent or buy. On Prime, for example, it costs $3.99 to rent and $9.99 to buy. You can do the same on other platforms, including Apple TV+, Microsoft Store, YouTube, Google Play, Spectrum and DirecTV.

Will It Be on TV?

In an era dominated by streaming services, watching a particular movie on traditional TV may not be as popular, but more than one generation grew up waiting with the family for Home Alone to air on the networks during the pre-holiday or holiday season. Fortunately, some networks will be showing the movie again this year.

For example, US residents will be able to see the movie on Freeform, which will air it on several consecutive days:

  • Thursday, December 21 at 6:20 pm.
  • Friday, December 22 at 10:00 am.
  • Saturday, December 23 at 5:10 pm.
  • Monday, December 25 at 6:00 pm.

UK residents can watch their favorite Christmas classic on Christmas Day, December 25 at 5:30 pm on Channel 4.
