Tom Cruise once again proves that preparing for a film should never be considered a walk in the park. Actor details the process of preparing his castmates for some high-end flying tricks in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.

Cruise, famous for doing all his stunts himself, apparently decided to share his beliefs with his younger co-stars, including Miles Teller. ‘Top Gun’ is a huge personal project for Hollywood legend, so everything, from CGI and acting performances to action scene’s realism, should be top-notch. And ‘Top Gun’ obviously involves flying some pretty fast military airplanes, so making cast fly the real F/A-18 jets before shooting the project sounded like a pretty good idea to Cruise.

"I developed a whole program for the actors, and how we could get them in the [F/A-18s]. It was every step of the way. I had to teach them how to fly. I had to teach them how to handle gs. I had to get them confident in the aeroplane", he told Total Film.

Miles Teller, starring as Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw, confirms that training put all the cast through a lot of pressure, testing their skills to a highest degree.

"We were all mini Toms making this movie. He put us through... I’ll just call it a ‘Tom Cruise boot camp’. We were getting in killer shape. And also, for the stunts and stuff that Tom does in movies, it’s usually a very specific type of training. You’re not just going into the gym and lifting some weights. We did flight training for three months before we started filming..."

We’ll see if Tom Cruise’s ‘boot camp’ was really worth it, when ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ finally hits theatres on May 25.
