This Actor Got Paid $54M For Saying Only 3 Words In 6 Marvel Movies
It turns out that it is not so easy to pronounce a phrase consisting of only three words. But it pays well (very well).
Groot is the character of the MCU that everyone knows from the movie Guardians of the Galaxy. He is a tree-like humanoid who can grow in size, grow new branches and prune them.
The main thing Groot is remembered by is one particular phrase: "I am Groot, " which he says throughout the movies.
There is only one special moment in the plot when Groot says the phrase "We are Groot."
Groot is voiced by Hollywood star Vin Diesel. The actor recalled that it was one of the most difficult tasks of his career – repeating the same phrase, but with a different emotional coloration.
The director, James Gunn, said that at first Groot was voiced by other actors – and it didn't work the right way.
When Diesel joined the voice cast, everything changed. Gunn was amazed at how Diesel could pronounce the same short phrase differently every time.
Nuordertech estimates that Vin Diesel was paid $54.4 million to voice Groot, which works out to about $13 million per movie.
To some, this amount may seem too big for such a role, but when you think about it, remember Groot – who does not adore this humanoid tree?
And it was Vin Diesel who made him so adorable.
James Gunn explained that in reality, Groot is always saying different lines, we just don't understand him, so we just hear "I am Groot."
But some Guardians do understand him, and the actors in the script have real lines that Groot wanted to say. Fans even tried to figure out what Groot was really saying and offered Gunn a transcript.
He replied that the translation was close to the truth, but the fans only got one short line right – "Dad."
Gunn also revealed the secret that cute Groot actually swears a lot, for example, he said the word "f**k" many times in the movies.
Gunn also said that he was inspired by his dog when creating Groot, because this character is cute, harmless and naively surprised by everything.
