Someone likes a great reference.

Summary:

  • Theo James is a star in Guy Ritchie 's TV series The Gentlemen that is currently dominating Netflix 's top.
  • In the show, he portrays the young duke who inherits a family mansion and a risky clandestine business as a package deal.
  • Despite being the main hero, James picked another character's line when asked about his favorite one in the series.

Netflix's The Gentlemen has quickly and gently taken over the platform's top charts, like a certain young duke who pretended to be desperate to get out of the crime business but ended up being its sole king.

Even though the new series has been in the crosshairs of fans who believed that it was unnecessary for Ritchie to turn a great movie of his into a TV show, it now seems that all worries proved to be wrong. The Gentlemen reigns on Netflix, and its star Theo James once again enjoys international spotlight shortly after stealing hearts in The White Lotus.

However, the main actor, who portrays Eddie Horniman (a young aristocrat who happened to inherit the family mansion as well as its sneaky underground business), remains very modest about it.

When asked about his favorite line in The Gentlemen, Theo James didn't even pick anything his own character said. Instead, he went for a line that belongs to Susie Glass portrayed by Kaya Scodelario.

The line Theo loves the most was uttered in the very finale of the show, when Eddie and Susie part ways (not really), and she says "It's been emotional, captain."

"Firstly, it refers to the original Vinnie Jones line from Lock, Stock [& Two Smoking Barrels], obviously, Guy's first proper big movie. And also, the "captain" of it, there's the link to Captain Eddie Horniman," explained James.

The TV series is indeed filled with oh so many nods to not just the big screen version of The Gentlemen but other Ritchie's works as well. As noted by James, Susie Glass' brief goodbye in the series finale was indeed a reference to Vinnie Jones from Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels.

It looks like Netflix's The Gentlemen is on its way to becoming a new classic, as it's dominating the charts with over 12 million views after about 2 weeks of streaming. It's unclear at this time if this means a Season 2 for the series, but the possibility gets more real with each new milestone the show reaches.

While critics and viewers continue to argue whether the show or the movie is better, you can make up your mind and stream The Gentlemen on Netflix.
