The Walking Dead spin-off keeps the bar high.

On September 29, the second season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon started. This is the fifth spin-off of the original The Walking Dead, but the first to take place in Europe. The first season was warmly received by critics, so there was a lot of attention to the second one.

But AMC had a problem – the network's French partners accidentally leaked all six episodes of the second season. Some fans have already taken advantage of the mistake and watched the continuation of the story in its entirety, so we will talk about the second season of Daryl Dixon as a whole.

What Is Daryl Dixon Season 2 About?

Set in 2023, Daryl Dixon is similar in plot to the adaptation of The Last of Us, which also began last year: a man who survived the zombie apocalypse, having personally killed dozens of people in order to survive, is forced to accompany a child on whom the future of all humanity may depend.

Laurent is special – the locals believe he is destined to be the new Messiah. This is because, like Ellie from The Last of Us, he was born to an infected mother, but was not infected himself. It is unknown if the guy has immunity, and an attempt to test this theory is one of the main plots of the second season.

Daryl is caught between two fires, his goal being to protect the boy, so he is forced to stay in France and postpone finding a way home.

Season 2 Features a Return of the Beloved Character

In the second season, another character from the original series returns – Carol Peletier. She goes in search of her friend, whom she has known since the first weeks of the zombie apocalypse and has been through a lot. Carol finds a way to get to France.

It would seem that Carol's evolution over 11 seasons of The Walking Dead is well developed, but Peletier did not have an important milestone – she never said goodbye to her daughter Sophia, who died in the second season.

A trip to France unexpectedly confronts Carol with long-past events – first she meets a man who also lost a child, and then learns that Daryl is protecting Laurent. And this sends her back to the past, where Dixon spent days and nights looking for her missing girl.

Daryl Dixon Is the Best The Walking Dead Spin-Off So Far

Daryl Dixon is probably the best spin-off of The Walking Dead. It works well on its own and complements the Daryl and Carol arcs, which were given less time in the last few seasons of the main series due to the abundance of characters.

The short season format – six episodes versus 16-22 in The Walking Dead – allowed the story to stop being drawn out and full of filler episodes, and instead focus on the characters.
